Under direction of the Information Technology Manager I, the Information Technology Specialist I collaborates with management and staff offering administrative and technical support for computers, laptops, tablets, and mobile devices. The incumbent monitors, tracks, and audits IT assets to ensure responsibility, utilizing standard asset management tools and methods, aligning with the State Administrative Manual (SAM), other applicable laws and regulations, and consistent with departmental policies and procedures. Working alongside peers and management, the incumbent collaborates to revise and propose standards, processes, procedures, and technological approaches.


Specifically, the incumbent provides lead support for all phases of end user device life cycle management including but not limited to, procurement, deployment, installation, configuration, maintenance and operations, and surplus.


This professional contributes to strategic decision-making and expenditure optimization within the IT landscape, facilitating the organization in gaining a more profound insight into the business value of its IT resources. The incumbent aids the department in reducing waste and enhancing efficiency through the optimal utilization of existing IT assets, thereby avoiding unnecessary asset acquisitions.


The incumbent adapts easily to changing priorities and maintains consistent, predictable attendance in the performance of these specific functions. Strong team building and communication skills are essential and required in this position.


Incumbents in this classification will progress through ranges A, B and C based upon the requirements of the alternate range criteria relating to the classification specifications. As the incumbent progresses beyond Range A, the incumbent will be expected to perform the level of responsibilities associated with the assigned range, in addition to the level of responsibilities in the lower range(s).


Duties of this position fall primarily under Client Services and Business Technology Management but may include other IT domains.

This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule which includes up to two days of remote work per week. Additional in office days may be required based on the business need.

Information Technology Specialist I - Exam 2PBBR


Training and Development (T&D) assignments are temporary assignments to provide an employee training and experience to move to a different occupational field. A T&D assignment is a formal agreement between the employee, the current supervisor, and the new supervisor. The duration of agreements can vary in length but shall not exceed twenty-four (24) months.


The duration may also be the length of experience needed to meet the minimum qualifications. Please note they are only available to current California State employees who have permanent status.
