Overview Under the direction of the Manager of Access Control & Security, and working collaboratively with other university departments, this position oversees the management, administration, and deployment of the campus video management system (VMS) Milestone, enterprise-level campus access control system (C-Cure by Software House) and as well as other similar systems. The Systems Administrator is responsible for hardware and software upkeep, system health monitoring, installation, and configuration of the systems, provides software support in investigations, and for creating reports. This position oversees vendor partners and provides technical direction to service technicians. This position also has responsibility for ensuring maximum system uptime, as well as for security of the systems. The Systems Administrator develops operating procedures and provides user training. This position manages projects relating to new installations, new system acceptance, and system modifications/upgrades.
The campus is approximately 600 acres, having 11 million square feet of academic, administrative, athletic, residential, and research space. The card access system has approximately 1,600 networked doors, approximately 6,000 keyless locks, and 850 surveillance video cameras, along with other, security-related systems.

Responsibilities Systems Administration Operations and Support Performs hardware and software upkeep, maintenance, and configurations necessary to ensure reliable operation of the systems. Installs and configures new hardware and software; adds/removes user accounts; data conversions; resets passwords; documents all system configurations. Monitors systems for abnormalities; verifies the integrity and availability of all servers, systems, and key processes; reviews system and application logs looking for potential problems; troubleshoots and resolves hardware and/or software problems. Applies operating system and application patches/upgrades. Coordinates system maintenance/support activities with other departments on campus. Creates/prepares reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information using Crystal Report writer (and other tools as needed); oversees the services of third-party systems integrator vendors. Provide technical direction and hands-on assistance to technicians in diagnostic procedures, trouble shooting, servicing, installing and acceptance testing of related systems. Responsible for ensuring security of systems follow compliance of university standards and industry best practices. Procedure Development & User Training Develops and maintains systems technical information and user operating instructions. Provides training and oversight to system users on the proper operation of the various systems. Interface with the Universityâ™s Facilities Information and Technology department, Office of Design and Construction on capital projects; collaborates with local building managers, Department of Public Safety, and other essential users. Assists in the development of system specifications, and requests for proposals. Assists in selecting vendors for security systems, and writes administrative procedures required to support operations. Project Management Responsible for researching, suggesting, and managing new projects to replace, upgrade, or install new surveillance monitoring devices and access control security system software/hardware. Utilizes project management best practices to identify, review, track, and control project milestones, deliverables, and to communicate with stakeholders. Acceptance Testing and Commissioning Test new installation programs and databases, corrects errors, and make necessary modifications to programs and data. Coordinates and oversees the Acceptance Testing Procedure for all security, and intrusion detection surveillance system installations, expansions, and alterations. Oversees new system data entry and commissioning of system installations. Qualifications Education/Experience
Associate degree in computer science, information technology, electronics engineering, information systems, computer systems administration, or closely related degree, and have at least one nationally recognized information technology certification, or at least five (5) yearsâ™ verifiable information technology experience or at least three (3) years of practical experience as a systems administrator, performing system monitoring, application support, and user training. Experience with video technology software by Milestone or equivalent that interfaces with surveillance monitoring devices. Experience with Tyco/Software House C-Cure server software, and site physical security systems, sensors, actuators, that interface with the C-Cure system. Technical Understanding - ability to read, interpret, and understand drawings, specifications, sequences of operation, security system drawings, and other technical data; ability to understand and analyze the technical complexities of life safety and security systems; Knowledge of Information Technology Systems â" Must have a good working knowledge of computer operating systems, database administration, security-related software, hardware, troubleshooting techniques. Basic understanding to develop scripts or to automate routine tasks; working knowledge of computer security as it relates to business-critical systems (e.g., firewalls and intrusion detection technology); Communication Skills - ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, to a diverse audience, and possess a knowledge of appropriate escalation protocols; Project Management Skills â" proven track record of managing complex, inter-departmental projects; understanding of best practices relating to project management; Multi-tasking and Complexity - ability to successfully handle multiple tasks and deadlines at once, and be able to determine appropriate priorities; must be able to make independent interpretations and make appropriate decisions that are in the best interest of the organization and that are consistent with the objectives of senior-management; After-Hour Emergency Response â" must be able to respond to after normal business hour emergencies and incidents as needed, and on short notice; Essential Personnel â" must be able to function in an essential personnel role, which may include an extended on-campus presence during local, regional, national emergencies; and Must have a valid driverâ™s license to drive University vehicles (trucks/vans). Preferred Qualifications
Bachelorâ™s degree in computer science, information technology, electronics engineering, information systems, computer systems administration, or closely related field of discipline.
