Primary Function : The Director of Communications will set, guide, and execute the strategy for all communications, website, and public relations messages to promote a positive image which supports the district's vision, mission, and Board policies.


Qualifications – Education & Experience Bachelor's degree in communications including Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or related field. A minimum of four (4) years professional experience in Public Relations or Marketing, K-12 education experience, preferred. The ability to manage and work simultaneously on multiple tasks with multiple steps and varying priorities. Strong verbal and written communication skills, along with the ability to construct clear, compelling messages for various target audiences. Strategic long and short-term planning expertise. Knowledge and proven experience with social media and digital marketing platforms, including but not limited to, Adobe Creative Suite. Knowledge of crisis management strategies and best practices. Understanding of current marketing and branding strategies. The necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to effectively present information and respond to inquiries from the staff, students, parents, the general public, and the media. Ability to effectively identify, define, and respond to challenges and opportunities. Willingness to always provide exceptional internal and external customer service. An aptitude for various forms of technology. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities Oversee and advise on the district marketing and public relations strategies. Collaborate with administrators and school staff across the district. Work with appropriate staff from other departments to produce high quality, consistent, on message, compelling content as required for key communications channels. Communicate proactively and grow engagement with students, staff, parents, and community members. Develop a strategy for telling the district's story and educating the community and general public on the district's mission and vision. Collect and analyze data on student, staff, and community perceptions. Develop and execute communication plans and strategic campaigns for district initiatives and goals. Strengthen and build partnerships that enhance students' learning opportunities. Manage development, distribution, and maintenance of all print and electronic collateral including, but not limited to, newsletters, brochures, and e-newsletters. Manage all media contacts. Provide strategic oversight of the district's social media platforms and website. Stay current on programs, positioning and marketing and communication strategies developed by other school districts. Represent the district in community civic organizations and as a member of the Oakland County School Public Relations Association (OCSPRA) and the Michigan Schools Public Relations Association (MSPRA). Perform other duties as required.

Salary : starting at $91,114; commensurate with education and experience
