The Department of Learning Health Sciences (DLHS) at the University of Michigan Medical School in Ann Arbor, Michigan, seeks a full-time, tenure-track faculty member at the Full Professor level with rank and salary commensurate with education and experience. The person in this senior faculty position will conduct funded research applying methods of data science and informatics, with specific foci on standards for data and metadata, system interoperability, data sharing, and operation of research networks.  They will offer courses in the department's graduate programs on these and related topics; and will supervise graduate students and chair doctoral dissertation committees.  Service activities will include mentoring of junior faculty members, chairing departmental committees, consultation with faculty colleagues on data issues within their studies, representing the department in national and international scholarly organizations.

DLHS is especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute, through their research, teaching, and/or service, to the diversity and excellence of the academic community.
? Develop and conduct an externally funded research program aligned with the Department?s health and healthcare improvement mission and with the individual?s scholarly interest.
? Foster scholarly initiatives with other faculty members to improve AI/ML applications.
? Collaborate with personnel in the healthcare delivery system to promote the implementation of AI/ML applications.
? Participate as a faculty member teaching in the Health Infrastructures & Learning Systems (HILS) MS/PhD and HILS online programs.
? Advise postdoctoral, doctoral, and graduate students and trainees on AI/ML methods.
A start-up package is available to help the successful candidate establish a sustainable research program. Joint appointments with other departments across the University will be available and encouraged. Applicants with appropriate background and experience may later be considered for leadership positions related to AI/ML within the University of Michigan Health System and its affiliates.
A terminal degree (PhD, MD, or equivalent) in a relevant discipline
A record of excellent scholarly achievement, extramural funding or potential for funding appropriate to the applicant's seniority and professional experience
Demonstrated potential for successfully teaching learners from various backgrounds
Demonstrated contributions to academia through service to professional societies, journals/conferences, and academic diversity, equity, and inclusion, as appropriate to the applicant's position or rank
Department of Learning Health Sciences (DLHS ). The DLHS is a basic science department of the University of Michigan Medical School. Established in 2014, DLHS is a first-in-the-nation academic department focused on the sciences underlying use of Learning Health System methods to improve individual and population health. As such, DLHS has faculty from many disciplines sharing an interest in health improvement. Out of the department's 26 core faculty members, 13 have backgrounds and/or interests in biomedical informatics, 6 in implementation science, and others in education and a range of behavioral and social sciences. Seven members of the core faculty are physicians. DLHS houses the editorial office for the Learning Health Systems journal. The department's PhD program in Health Infrastructures and Learning Systems has formal tracks in informatics and implementation science. DLHS works in close collaboration with many departments and schools across the university; almost all of its 100+ funded projects directly engage colleagues from outside the department.
