Details of the offer

Overview

The mission of the USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts University (HNRCA) is to promote healthy aging through nutrition science to empower people seeking to enjoy long, active, and independent lives. HNRCA investigators examine how nutrition and physical activity play a role in the prevention of the major chronic degenerative conditions and diseases associated with aging.
The Biostatistics and Data Management core consults and assists in study design, implementation, and data analysis/management and develops new statistical techniques and software to support HNRCA research activities. Scientists confer with the unit in the early stages of a study to discuss project goals, available resources, accepted statistical and data management practices, and the appropriate response variables and covariates for proper statistical analysis.

What You'll Do

Interact and partner with HNRCA investigators and core unit staff, in providing statistical support for research activities; Utilize knowledge of statistical methods to support studies using multi-omic data (e.g., metagenomics, metabolomics;) in conjunction with clinical and nutrition-related outcomes and exposures. Provide pre-award support including power and sample size calculations, study design and data analysis plans with consideration of high dimensionality of omics data. Statistical analysis with an emphasis on translation into public health and aging. Design and implement data analysis and provide publication quality tables and figures. Assist researchers by anticipating and resolving questions that may arise during design and implementation of their research.
Provide HNRCA investigators with needed statistical support within the confines of existing resources. Provide

assistance in designing, developing, and implementing statistical methods and practices needed for conducting different avenues of research, including basic research, animal studies, clinical trials, and metabolomic studies. Keep up-to-date on current trends in statistical approaches used in nutritional studies.

Interact and partner with HNRCA investigators and core unit staff in providing statistical support for pre-award and post-award activity. Assist investigators with study design, writing statistical plans for grant applications and manuscripts.

Develop and conduct workshops and provide individual training for laboratories, core units, and trainees on specific statistical topics and software packages. Serve as liaison with other Tufts staff/resources that offer additional statistical services and training.
