Qualifications: Assess, treat, and care for patients with breathing disorders. Assume primary responsibility for all respiratory care modalities, including the supervision of respiratory therapy technicians. Initiate and conduct therapeutic procedures; maintain patient records; and select, assemble, check, and operate equipment.
Essential Functions: Ability to follow established standards of respiratory practices and implement facility policies and procedures. Ability to interpret existing policies and procedures that apply to respiratory therapy. Set up and operate devices such as mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas administration apparatus, environmental control systems, and aerosol generators, following specified parameters of treatment. Provide emergency care, including artificial respiration, external cardiac massage and assistance with cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Ability to provide report to nurse coming on duty, including sufficient information for follow-up action if necessary. Ability to conduct resident rounds daily, reporting problems to supervisor and initiating corrective action. Ability to identify safety hazards and initiate corrective action immediately. Ability to identify resident problems and emergency situations, and initiate CPR and call 911. Ability to participate facility education programs and coordinate with the Director of Nursing Education. Ability to attend staff meetings, in-service classes, and committee meetings as assigned. Ability to administer and document medications and treatments per the physician's order and accurately record all care provided. Ability to perform assessment of each resident. Ability to document assessments of each resident. Ability to document resident care provided and resident's response or lack of response to care provided. Ability to report changes in resident's conditions to a physician, Director of Nursing Service promptly and to take follow-up action as necessary. Ability to participate in resident care conference as assigned. Ability to consistently work cooperatively with residents, nursing staff, physicians, families, consultant personnel, community agencies, and ancillary service providers. Ability to personally obtain continuing education relating to the long term care field of nursing. Ability to perform infection control procedures. Ability to be responsible for the safety of residents under his/her supervision. Ability to follow Resident's Rights policies and procedures. Ability to observe all facility safety policies and procedures. Ability to come to work in a clean, neat uniform and consistently present an appropriate professional appearance. Ability to come to work as scheduled and consistently demonstrates dependability and punctuality. Ability to assume accountability for data contained in employees' handbook.
