The Telesnitsky Lab is seeking a responsible Research Laboratory Technician to join a basic science research laboratory, to assist the research mission by performing assays, analyzing data, and assisting other team members' experimental work.
The applicant will be closely involved in a range of research projects, and make original scientific contributions, interpret, and analyze results, and suggest future directions. The successful candidate will apply their energy and expertise to implementing and troubleshooting experimental technologies such as maintaining and propagating cultured mammalian cells, designing, and constructing expression plasmids, and applying other molecular biology techniques. Data documentation, data analysis, and scientific writing skills are required.
In addition, candidates will be expected to contribute as needed to the smooth operation of the lab as needed, including routine laboratory maintenance (instrument upkeep, preparation of stocks and buffers, ordering lab supplies, managing these supplies, dishwashing, and autoclaving), record keeping, and compliance with University of Michigan regulations. Please note: This position is term-limited for 1 year with the possibility of renewal based on need and available funding. The successful applicant will be responsible for a dministering tests, gathering data, recording observations and measurements and s etting up and operating laboratory equipment. The applicant will perform routine computations and computer analyses.
Proficiency in basic microbiological skills and basic molecular biology protocols as well as general lab techniques. Experience with techniques including PCR, gel electrophoresis, and/or fluorescent microscopy. 
SENIOR LEVEL - Bachelor's degree in biology or related field with at least 1 year of relevant laboratory research experience in molecular biology, immunology, microbiology. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted, including relevant undergraduate and graduate student experience. 
INTERMEDIATE LEVEL - A ssociate's degree in biology or a related field with 1 year of laboratory research experience in molecular biology, immunology, microbiology. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted, including relevant undergraduate and graduate student experience. 
Knowledge and experience working with RNA, bacterial culture, and mammalian cell culture.
This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
This is a 1-year term-limited appointment.  At the end of the stated term, your appointment will terminate, and will not be eligible for Reduction-in-Force (RIF) benefits.  This term-limited appointment does not create a contract or guarantee of employment for any period of time as you will remain subject to disciplinary or other performance measures, up to and including termination, at the will of the University in accordance with existing University policy and standards for employee performance and conduct.
