Full job description Summary of Position Red Rocks Community College seeks applications for a student-focused, collaborative, and supportive individual to join our team as a Pathway Advisor. Under the leadership of the Director of Advising, the Pathway Advisor assists students in the clarification of their life/career goals and in the development of educational plans for the realization of these goals. The Pathway Advisor guides prospective and current students through the admission process, course registration and selection, program planning, degree completion, scholarships, and college resources. In addition, the Pathway Advisor serves as the Colleges point of contact for students on courses, programs of study, transferability, educational and career plans.
Essential Responsibilities Engages in comprehensive assessment of students' academic needs and career aspirations. Offers informed guidance on course selection, program choices, credit transferability, and available college resources. Collaborates with students to develop personalized learning plans and conducts unofficial degree evaluations. Proactively contributes to student retention efforts, aiding students in planning their educational journey and facilitating smooth transitions between academic institutions. Additionally, implements proactive outreach strategies to identify at-risk students and provides targeted support and interventions. Fosters a culture of inclusivity and diversity, recognizing and addressing the unique challenges faced by students from various backgrounds. Serves as a responsive point of contact for student inquiries, faculty, high school counselors, and advisors from four-year colleges. Participates in cross-departmental collaborations and committees to enhance the overall student experience and promotes institutional initiatives. Provides hands-on support to students and staff throughout the registration process and actively engages in outreach efforts to inform students about registration deadlines, procedures, and available resources. Collaborates closely with faculty and staff to ensure the dissemination of accurate and up-to-date information regarding program modifications, assessment criteria, faculty and course details, transfer policies, scholarship opportunities, and appropriate referrals to support services. Fosters a culture of collaboration and shared knowledge to enhance the student experience. Actively participates in departmental meetings and professional development workshops to stay informed about changes in academic policies, curriculum updates, and emerging trends in higher education. Serves as a resource and advocate for students, ensuring their needs are addressed and that they have access to the necessary support services to thrive academically and personally. Participates actively in advising-appropriate committee work, transfer fairs, group advising information sessions, and college orientation venues. Integrates comprehensive career guidance seamlessly into advising sessions.
Qualifications Required Qualifications: Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science from an accredited institution in counseling, human services (or a closely related filed). One year of academic advising, or related experience.


Education Substitution: A combination of education and directly related professional work experience (such as academic advising) may be substituted on a year for year basis. Years of experience is in addition to any required years of experience for the position. Part time experience is prorated.



Preferred Qualifications: Experience working in diverse communities and supporting the success of individuals from racial, ethnic, and gender backgrounds that are underrepresented. Experience working in a community college or university setting. Experience working with Banner, Navigate, or similar higher education software packages.



Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Ability to work from campus (primarily our Lakewood campus with occasional hours at the Arvada campus).



Physical and Cognitive Demands: The following are some of the physical and cognitive demands commonly associated with this position.


This position operates in a standard office and/or classroom environment. Constantly uses a computer and routinely uses standard office equipment including phones, copiers, etc. Requires the repetitious movement of hands, wrists, arms. Cognitive demands include comparing, copying, computing, compiling, analyzing, coordinating, synthesizing, negotiating, communicating, instructing, and interpersonal skills. The person in this position constantly communicates with internal and external constituents and students. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. Occasionally moves, positions, and transports equipment and supplies weighing up to 25 lbs. Department Information: The mission of Academic Advising is to create a partnership with students in developing their educational goals while engaging and empowering them to become self-sufficient and active learners. Academic advisors are available to help students obtain program information, evaluate assessment results, select courses, identify course prerequisites, complete graduation evaluations, and assist with transfer planning to a four-year college or university.



Work Environment and Typical Work Schedule: Work is generally performed in a standard office environment. The office is open Monday – Friday, 08:00 a.m.to 5:00 p.m. This position will require hours at our Arvada campus for a minimum of a third of the schedule, may require work outside of regular office hours, and occasional weekend hours. Attendance at various off campus events and some travel may be required.

Starting Salary: Starting salary is determined by education and experience in accordance with our compensation plan.
