We are seeking an Outreach Worker who will work under the direct supervision of the ALIVE Study Coordinators and Clinic Director; the outreach worker will provide an essential skill set to multiple research studies. The outreach worker will play a pivotal role in locating and retaining participants. This is a grant-funded potentially time-limited position.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities Conduct outreach to service agencies and care facilities in effort to maintain contact with participants. Establish and maintain working relationships with local area clinic personnel (admissions coordinator, clinical services coordinator, emergency services coordinator) that interface with study staff and participants of this study. Conduct follow-up activities (phone calls, mailings, and in-person reminders) to ensure that participants return for follow-up visits. Conduct street outreach (visit participants' residences, homeless shelters, free kitchens and hangouts) to locate participants who have been lost to follow-up. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or graduation equivalent. Preferred Qualifications Some college course work is a plus. Prior experience with client/participant outreach is desirable. Ability to use computer and proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel and REDCap Database and spreadsheet knowledge. Interaction with program staff is frequent and the ability to work well as a member of a research team with a high degree of self-motivation is required. Professional interaction with inter-agency and intra-agency staff is a regular component of this position. Applicant should feel comfortable working with a diverse group of people. Applicant should have reliable transportation and feel comfortable using their own form of transportation with clients and/or be familiar with the Baltimore transportation system and be able to assist clients. Familiarity with Baltimore city agencies, homeless shelters, substance abuse programs are desirable. Previous involvement in research or experience in a clinical setting is desirable. Special knowledge, skills, and abilities: Knowledge of HIV, Hepatitis C, and substance use & medical terminology associated with HIV disease. Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills. JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
