Title: Open Rank (WOT), Geriatric Research, Education and Clinical Center (GRECC), VA Puget Sound Health Care System Position Veterans Affairs Puget Sound Health Care System (VAPSHCS) and the School of Medicine at the University of Washington (UW) are seeking candidates for one full-time faculty position (1.0 FTE) at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor without tenure by reason of funding. This position will be based at the Veterans Health Administration and patient care efforts will occur at the VA Puget Sound. This position is paid directly by VAPSHCS and receives no UW compensation. Please refer to VAPSHCS for information about compensation for this position. Assistant Professors are eligible for multi-year appointments and Associate and Full Professors hold indefinite appointments that all align with a 12-month (July 1 - June 30) service period. Depending on their qualifications, the successful candidate will be appointed in one of the following departments: Medicine, Neurology, Psychiatry or Rehabilitation Medicine. We anticipate a start date on or before July 1, 2024.
The succesful candidate will serve as a Physician Scientist in the Geriatric Research, Education and Clinical Center (GRECC) at VAPSHCS. The GRECC is an interdisciplinary center of excellence in gerontology & geriatric medicine with strong research, education, and clinical programs in neurodegenerative disease, endocrinology, and other aging-related areas. The successful candidate will be expected to lead a vibrant nationally funded research program (20% effort).
The GRECC Investigator position is supported by a VA hard-line salary and institutional support, including competitive start-up resources and laboratory space, to promote the candidate's long-term success. Our departments offer a highly collegial and collaborative culture, with diverse interdisciplinary research ties across campus. Qualifications Candidates must hold an MD or DO or foreign equivalent. Applicants must be U.S. Citizens (permanent residents may be appointed only if it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens). Applicants should possess academic leadership potential, experience with clinical teaching programs, and a vital, funded, basic, translational or clinical research program. Applicants should be an academic clinician with training and experience from fields relevant to geriatrics who have demonstrated ability to work productively with a multi-specialty group of clinical and basic scientists. Positive factors for consideration include but are not limited to strong academic leadership and mentorship skills, commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration, experience with clinical teaching programs, and prior scientific accomplishments that include interdisciplinary or collaborative programs and a vital, funded research program.
