This position closes at 5:00PM on the close date. Performs building inspection to determine electrical soundness and compliance with specifications and permit services for new and remodeled construction, design, quality of materials, use and occupancy and locations of structures and buildings in Doña Ana County in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and county ordinances.
Inspects industrial, commercial, residential buildings, during various stages of construction and remodeling; makes independent decisions regarding compliance with codes and ordinances of the county, state and federal agencies and constructions methods. Analyzes buildings undergoing change of use or occupancy, buildings being moved or demolished, and damaged or dilapidated buildings or structures; provides viable alternatives to bring building into compliance. Determines extent of damage, safety factors and necessary permits required to Conducts inspections to assure compliance with codes, county ordinances and state Prepares reports and maintains files of inspections and issued permits and citations. Coordinates and schedules inspection requests regarding permits Provides quality customer service. ADDITIONAL DUTIES. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education. High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Experience. Applicant shall qualify by meeting the requirements for examination for electrical inspector licensure within three (3) months of date of hire. Applicant shall acknowledge and meet the requirements for general building inspector by the State of NM, C.I.D. and NMAC as follows.
Electrical: three (3) years of journeyman or foreman experience; Candidates with at least one year of journeyman or foreman level experience may substitute technical, university, or college training in a general construction field for up to two (2) years foreman level experience. One (1) year of technical, university or college training shall equal ½ a year of foreman level experience; Candidates may substitute five (5) years of work experience as a certified electrical inspector from a recognized jurisdiction, and at least two (2) years of related trade experience or construction related technical, university or college training. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
Education/Experience substitution. In accordance with the required experience listed under letter B.
Licenses/Certifications. A valid unrestricted driver's license is required and must maintain a satisfactory driving record within county policy. Must obtain and maintain NM CID Electrical Inspector certification within three (3) months and Residential and Commercial Electrical Inspector certifications from the International Code Council within one (1) year of hire date. Additional ICC certification(s) preferred. Additional NM CID certification(s) preferred. An ER-1 or EE-98 license issued by the State of New Mexico or a similar license from another state preferred. 
Other (e.g., post-offer medical exam, polygraph, background check, driver's license record, etc.). Background and driver's license check.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED BY THE POSITION: Knowledge of : Construction principles and practices of the construction industry in the electrical trades; applicable to the electrical codes and county ordinances applicable to residential, and commercial construction; county policies, state federal and local building, zoning, housing and safety laws, rules, ordinances, codes, and regulations; the principles of record keeping and records management.
Skills and Abilities : Interpreting and applying statutes, rules, ordinances, codes and regulations; interpreting plumbing and mechanical regulations, and comparing them with construction in progress; planning, prioritizing and scheduling multiple tasks, projects and demands; assessing, analyzing, identifying and recommending solutions to problems; establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with employees, officials, other agencies and the general public; operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of business software; following and effectively communicating verbal and written instructions.
