Full job description As the Environmental Remediation Project Manager , you will manage complex projects and associated risks within PPG's corporate organization. Responsibilities include minimizing environmental liabilities; protecting the asset value of land for PPG through overall management of existing on-site and off-site remediation projects; lead site assessments for acquisitions or divestitures of businesses or properties; lead periodic assessments of owned and operated properties; and lead assessments in response to episodic events on a global basis. You will serve as a technical expert and also periodically support Environmental Affairs in areas such as: compliance, auditing, management systems and operational risk management.
You will report to the Corporate Director of Environmental Affairs and also represent PPG in consortium and trade organizations and work to improve PPG's remediation image among peer organizations.
Key Responsibilities Providing leadership, direction and interaction for procurement and management of consultants and contractors to cost-effectively complete projects under CERCLA and RCRA.
Developing solutions to complex problems which require use of ingenuity and innovation as it relates to remediation.
Collaborates closely with PPG functions including Communications, Finance, Legal, Procurement, Real Estate and External Stakeholders.
Leads project team to develop and implement all phases of a remediation project from investigation to operation and maintenance.
Supporting litigation involving environmental contamination.
Providing recommendations for provision of appropriate financial reserves to cover anticipated costs of future remediation.
Mitigating the impact of remediation costs on business performance.
Communicating and negotiating with governmental agencies to determine requirements for remediation projects.
Negotiating with other companies to determine the fair share of costs to be attributed to PPG at multi-party Superfund sites.
Communicating with the public as necessary regarding PPG's involvement at sites and managing projects to ensure that all work is performed in accordance with appropriate laws and regulations.
Qualifications A Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Geology, or a related discipline with 12-15 or more years of experience and relevant certification.
Demonstrated knowledge of federal laws and regulatory requirements governing environmental remediation (CERCLA, RCRA) and environmental compliance (State, Federal and Local).
Knowledge of project management and basic financial accounting principles.
Ability to interface and connect with cross-functional teams at all levels of a project.
Ability to develop a site 'path to closure' attitude for all PPG and Multi-party sites by influencing PRP Technical Groups with facts and activities to optimize project outcomes.
Ability to exercise judgement, implement decisions effectively; Identify and monitor emerging issues (such as regulation changes, etc.) within the remediation industry and evaluate their impact to projects. Work is performed without appreciable direction.
Continued professional growth and development by participating in professional societies and maintaining/obtaining professional certifications.
10% travel required
