Responsibilities
• Receive, review, and prioritize emergency and non-emergency calls• Assess and prioritize routine and emergency situations• Effectively communicate with callers in high stress situations• Handle multiple tasks simultaneously• Understand and follow emergency protocols for police, fire, and medical services• Be familiar with the cities of Springville and Mapleton and surrounding areas• Act as senior dispatcher in the absence of a dispatch supervisor• Take and handle citizen complaints• Notify other city employees and departments of after-hours response needs• Coordinate police, fire, and ambulance response to emergencies• Assist members of the department and the public in non-emergency situations• Coordinate operations with neighboring public safety agencies• Record all necessary information according to department protocol• Maintain necessary certifications and training• Observe confidentiality and access rules and regulations• Perform other assigned duties
Requirements
• High school diploma or equivalent• 3 years experience as a Public Safety Dispatcher with 2 years at Springville Dept. of Public Safety• Completion of all required training and necessary certifications• Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) and CPR certifications• Bureau of Criminal Identification (BCI) Proficiency certification• Valid Utah Driver License• 36 hours of specialized approved training• No disciplinary actions within 18 months prior to advancement• Demonstrate ability to perform duties with professionalism• Good communication skills both verbally and in writing• Ability to operate complex telephone and radio system• Working knowledge of public safety procedures• Typing speed of at least 45 words per minute• Familiarity with computers and ability to operate them• Knowledge of local, state, and federal codes• Emergency Medical Dispatcher qualification• Ability to work well under pressure• Ability to monitor and track personnel during ongoing situations
