Unit Mission Statement: The Office of Student Transition Engagement Programs (STEP) connects and engages students throughout their W&M transitions with community partners to develop resilient and thriving individuals.
Students will be empowered to design a personalized, holistic experience that will impact their collegiate and long-term success. Position Summary: Reporting to the Director of Student Transition Engagement Programs (STEP,) the Assistant Director works collaboratively across the institution to build the foundation for a smooth new-to-W&M transition. By fostering belonging and connection to institutional resources, they oversee and execute both the co-enrollment and undergraduate degree-seeking new orientation programs at the start of the fall and spring semesters, including the recruitment, hiring, and development of all student orientation leaders. This position is part of a highly collaborative, student-orientation team environment, and supervises Graduate Assistants who work with and support our paid Orientation Area Directors and volunteer Orientation Aides.

Required Qualifications: Master's degree OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and or experience. Experience(typically 2 -4 years) with new student orientation, campus transition and/or university persistence/retention programs. Working knowledge (typically 1 – 3 years) of community development initiatives, including program development, implementation, and evaluation. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, College Student Personnel, Counseling, or a related field. Experience working in an environment comprised of diverse students, families, and perspectives. Experience supervising undergraduate and graduate students. Experience collaborating with campus partners. Demonstrated skills in team development and event management. Working knowledge of VisualZen, Constant Contact, and/or other connected campus living, communication, and events technology. Is the position remote work eligible?: Not eligible

Advertised Pay Range: Up to $60,000 commensurate with experience
