Full job description Function: Responsible for assisting in the operation of the Literacy Volunteers of Greater Waterbury (LVGW) office. LVGW is located in the Silas Bronson Library, but is an independent non-profit organization.
LVGW Mission: To teach adults to read, write, speak, and understand English so that they may achieve personal, educational, employment, and civic goals.

Reporting relationships:
The Administrative Assistant reports to the Executive Director.
Specific Duties:
Primary responsibility:
Serve as a data clerk to maintain database of student and tutor information. This includes data entry, creating reports, providing mailing labels, etc.
Additional duties:
Greet visitors and receive telephone calls from prospective program participants. Direct calls or messages as appropriate. Send information on the program to prospective volunteers including training schedules, brochures, applications, etc. Maintain workshop registration lists. Register prospective students. Update records for the Waterbury Development Corporation monthly. Assist in scheduling, administering assessments, and reporting the assessment results to tutors. Assist in the maintenance of office records. Perform office clerical work including typing, filing and copying. Coordinate bulk and first class mailings. Assist with fundraisers and special events. Perform other duties as assigned. Job Specifications: Strong verbal and written skills in both English and Spanish are required. Willingness to work with individuals from diverse and multi-cultural backgrounds. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; database experience a plus. Detail-oriented with effective organizational skills. Strong work ethic with ability to multi-task and meet deadlines. 12-15 afternoon/evening hours per week; some night and Saturday hours are required for fundraisers and special events.
