Job Description: Saybrook University is seeking Adjunct Dissertation Faculty Member(s) to join its Humanistic Psychology and Transformative Social Change programs to advise and oversee dissertation research. Saybrook University seeks candidates with strong experience conducting and advising doctoral dissertation research.
Under the direction of the Department Chair, the Adjunct Dissertation Faculty Member is responsible for providing excellent research mentoring of graduate students. Adjunct Dissertation Faculty bring a unique perspective to the University due to their expertise in their specific field, as well as expertise with specific research methodologies. Ideal candidates understand diverse student learners and understand the unique humanistic style of instruction at Saybrook University. In addition, ideal candidates have 3-5 years of experience in Interdisciplinary Studies, Psychology, and/or Transformative Social Change or a related field.
The Adjunct Dissertation Faculty Member is responsible for: Serving on dissertation or thesis committees as the faculty chair, reader, or methodologist.
Critically assess the feasibility, originality, and academic merit and rigor of dissertation proposals.
Offer constructive feedback on dissertation drafts, ensuring the research is methodologically sound and contributes to the field.
Actively engage in dissertation defense sessions, posing questions and evaluating the candidate's understanding and presentation of their research.
Providing constructive feedback, guidance, and oversight of student research.
Ensure the dissertation meets the rigorous academic and ethical standards of the field the dissertation drafts and issuing the appropriate grades.
Provide guidance and mentorship to the doctoral candidate, aiding in their academic and professional development.
Engaging in distance learning instruction.
Exhibiting flexibility in teaching students from diverse backgrounds.
Demonstrating strong computer competency.
Work collaboratively with other committee members, including internal faculty, to provide a comprehensive evaluation of the dissertation.
In addition, the position may involve overseeing student research methodology in several of the following areas:

Position Requirements: Doctoral degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning required, ideally in the areas of research, psychology, interdisciplinary studies, and /or transformative social change, however strong candidates from other fields will be considered.
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience developing and teaching graduate level courses at the foundational level, advanced level in leadership and management studies, and mentoring students on dissertations.
Knowledge and experience of online higher education and research/IRB administration best practices.
Experience with Office 365, Learning Management Systems (Canvas experience preferred), and other software for research, IRB administration, and online teaching; and
Clear communication and superior collaboration skills.

Technologically skilled in communication, presentation, and online learning systems; and
Previous experience in academic mentoring or supervision of doctoral research.
Familiarity with federal human research regulations and CITI Program training.
Excellent analytical, critical thinking, and communication skills.
Ability to commit time for reviewing documents, attending meetings, and participating in dissertation defenses.
