Department/Office: Data Science Advertisement: St. Catherine University welcomes applications for an Adjunct Lecturer in Data Science starting Fall 2024. Responsibilities include: Develop syllabus and course curriculum for the assigned course. Teach one or two classes on a semester basis in traditional or online environments. Educate and support students in their classroom. Communicate respectfully and build relationships of trust with people of all cultures and abilities. Foster a culture of inclusive excellence through authentic relationships with students as an educator and a mentor. Monitor and assess student-learning outcomes and provide timely and frequent feedback to students on academic performance. Monitor curriculum content and make recommendations as appropriate to maintain relevance. Consistent with the university's Catholic identity, its commitment to women, diversity, inclusion, social justice, and dedication to a liberal arts-based curriculum, faculty are expected to manifest these themes in their teaching and practice experiences. In this course, we will discuss how we perceive information visually, how to identify and avoid pitfalls in data visualization, how we interpret data visualizations to tell a story, and how to create effective visualizations. Through community-engaged work, students will begin to learn to craft summaries and visualizations of data and to use these tools to construct narratives about the data. Community-engaged work is project-based.

Minimum Qualifications: Masters degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Visualization, Statistics, or a related field. Demonstrated expertise in data visualization techniques, tools, and methodologies. Previous teaching experience at the undergraduate or graduate level, or relevant professional experience in data visualization. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. One (1) year teaching experience. Experience serving students from historically excluded communities. Preferred Qualifications: Ph.D. degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Visualization, Statistics, or a related field. Experience using industry-standard data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, R or similar platforms. Familiarity with data analysis and statistical methods. Experience designing and developing data visualization projects or applications. Commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in teaching and learning environments. Three (3) years of relevant teaching experience in higher education. Experience working in a minority serving institution.
