Summary PLEASE NOTE: Based on the current hiring restrictions, selectees may be subject to additional approvals prior to an offer being extended. The incumbent serves as an Accounting Technician (Travel) in the Administrative Resource Center, Travel Services Division (TSD), Temporary Duty Services Branch. The mission of TSD is to administer responsive, accurate, efficient, and cost-effective travel services to the Fiscal Service and other Federal agency shared service customers. Responsibilities The following are the duties of this position at the GS-07. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties and will receive training to help you grow in this position. Review complex and unusual documents to verify financial data, mathematical accuracy and to perform reconciliation of transactions. Determine necessary financial transactions and enter data into an accounting system. Provide information to establish account receivable documents for overpayment of travel funds. Perform post payment audits of travel vouchers in accordance with the Federal Travel Regulation (FTR) and agency policy. Requirements Conditions of Employment A one year probationary period may be required. Must successfully complete a background investigation. Periodic reinvestigation is required no later than five years after selection and at least every succeeding five years. Public Trust - Background Investigation will be required. Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency. Have your salary sent to a financial institution of your choice by Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer. Go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process that requires two forms of identification from the Form I-9. Federal law requires verification of the identity and employment eligibility of all new hires in the U.S. This position requires that the successful candidate undergo personnel vetting, which includes a background investigation and enrollment upon onboarding into "Continuous Vetting." Enrollment in Continuous Vetting will result in automated record checks being conducted throughout one's employment with Treasury. The successful candidate will also be enrolled into FBI's Rap Back service, which will allow Treasury to receive notification from the FBI of criminal matters (e.g., arrests, charges, convictions) involving enrolled individuals in near real-time. The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. Specialized experience: For the GS-07, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes: - Using various automated travel, reporting, and/or accounting systems; AND - Applying various travel regulations and policies; AND - Organizing and accomplishing varied work assignments and meeting deadlines despite frequent interruptions; AND - Reconciling and processing accounting and other financial management transactions. Specialized experience: For the GS-06, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes: - Using automated travel and/or accounting systems; AND - Applying various travel regulations and policies; AND - Organizing and accomplishing varied work assignments and meeting deadlines despite frequent interruptions. Specialized experience: For the GS-05, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes: - Analyze problems to identify significant factors, gather pertinent data, and recognize solutions; AND - Plan and organize work; AND - Communicate effectively orally and in writing. OR You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows:4 years above high school. OR You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. To combine education and experience, the total percentage of experience at the required grade level compared to the requirement, as well as the percentage of completed education compared to the requirement must equal at least 100 percent. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) may be combined to be considered for qualifying education. Options for qualifying based on a combination will be identified in the online questions. In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable: For the GS-07, you must have been at the GS-06 level for 52 weeks. For the GS-06, you must have been at the GS-05 level for 52 weeks. For the GS-05, you may be advanced to the GS-05 position if you have held a position no lower than GS-03 in the preceding year under your latest non-temporary competitive appointment OR have held a position at GS-05 or higher under a non-temporary appointment at any time in the past.
