Position SummaryUnder the general direction of the College of Health and Human Services Assistant Dean for Student Affairs, the Academic Advisor-Pathways to Success Coordinator will facilitate the retention, progression, and graduation of the undergraduate students in the college's five schools through individual appointments, group advising sessions, and campus campaigns that will be conducted via email, in-person, and virtually on Zoom. The position will provide leadership and oversight of the college-wide operational advising infrastructure by delivering active case management guidance for students related to; personal counseling, academic planning, career exploration and decision making, academic progress monitoring and interventions for goal completion, academic and learning support, and college navigation support.The Academic Advisor-Pathways to Success Coordinator position requires collaboration with the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs, the CHHS advising team, school directors, Career Services, the Division of Faculty Advancement and Student Success and other campus partners. The incumbent will work closely with the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs to identify and implement academic advising initiatives and strategies, extrapolate and analyze student success data and metrics, coordinate and lead tasks and projects that promote academic advising, student success, retention, and timeline to graduation. Additionally, this position will train new and current academic advisors and act as a lead for the academic advising staff members. Some evenings and weekend hours will be required.This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position. This position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs. Possession of the required knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience. One year in the program area to which assigned may be preferred but is not required.A Master's degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience. A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling or guidance may be substituted for the three years of experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional career or personal counseling.Key QualificationsA minimum of three years of experience as an academic advisor at a college or university is preferred.Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate complex information to individuals and groups.Thorough understanding of barriers for students from underrepresented groups.Experienced in providing leadership and supervision of other staff.Ability to work some weekend and evening hours with adequate notice.Compensation and BenefitsStarting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $5,025 per month.Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.San Diego State University offers a rich benefits package that constitutes a major portion of total compensation.
