Spend the morning performing conservation, campus beautification, and trail maintenance projects. On most afternoons you will receive training in classes such as First Aid, CPR/AED, Belay and Lead Climbing, Water Safety and the Environment, Microsoft Office Certification, Financial Literacy, Career Planning, and more — Get Paid for an 8-Hour Day!MAJOR DUTIES

Performs grounds maintenance and landscaping duties; weeding, mulching, digging, raking, pruning, cutting, planting, site preparation, and material removal and disposal. Assists with irrigation repair and maintenance. Assists with renovation projects. Applies weatherproofing to high and low Challenge Course elements. Maintains and cleans tools and equipment. Attend daily required trainings. Performs related duties. KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

Knowledge of grounds maintenance principles and practices. Knowledge of grounds equipment operation, maintenance and repair principles. Knowledge of irrigation system operation, maintenance and repair principles. Knowledge of greenhouse management principles. Skill in the operation of grounds maintenance equipment. Skill in decision making and problem solving. Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public. Skill in oral and written communication. Skill in working effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The Youth Conservation Corp Team Leader assigns work in terms of detailed but somewhat general instructions. The supervisor reviews most or all of the work while it is being performed for compliance with instructions and established procedures, accuracy and the nature and propriety of the final results.
GUIDELINES
Guidelines include equipment operation and maintenance manuals, safe work guidelines, and college policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific, but may require some interpretation in application.COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK

The work consists of related grounds maintenance duties. Varying terrain in site locations (hilly, sandy, inclement weather) contribute to the complexity of the position. The purpose of this position is to contribute to the beautification of SJC campus grounds and completion of conservation projects. Success in this position contributes to a well-maintained grounds and outdoor recreation area as well as improving water conservation and the environment. CONTACTS Contacts are typically with co-workers, other college personnel, and members of the general public. Contacts are typically to give or exchange information. PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT The work is typically performed while typically standing, stooping, walking, bending or crouching. The employee frequently lifts light and objects and occasionally lifts heavy objects, climbs ladders and uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity. The work is typically performed in a stockroom or warehouse, greenhouse and outdoors. The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc. SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
