The Water Technician III/IV works under the direction of the Water Division Manager; maintains, installs and repairs water utility equipment as assigned by the manager.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES Performs maintenance, repairs, and improvements to the City water distribution system and water facilities Maintains fire hydrants, valves, distribution mains, and service lines. Performs maintenance at well houses, on pumps, storage tanks, and meter vaults. Maintains necessary records for maintenance management MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATIONS Graduation from high school or GED equivalent, plus some specialized training in a closely related field, or any equivalent combination of related education and experience. Must possess a current Utah State Water Certification Grade 3 or 4 or have the ability to obtain within one year. Must possess a valid state driver's license with CDL endorsement or have the ability to obtain one within six months of employment. NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods and procedures used in public water supply and distribution systems. Skill in the operation of backhoe, dump truck, jackhammer, hot tap machine, tamper, compressor, concrete cutter, cut off saw, and various hand tools. Ability to operate and maintain equipment used in water maintenance and repair; ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
