Ward Clerk Location Worcester, MA : Ward Clerk - Full-Time - Shift 11am-7pm SUMMARY Provides assistance to the nursing staff by performing clerical and record keeping functions.
EDUCATION High School diploma or GED. QUALIFICATIONS Must have knowledge of medical terminology. Must have a C.N.A. License Must be proficient with computer skills. Must be able to read, write and speak English Other languages helpful but not required. Experience in the healthcare field required. At least one year of reception or secretarial experience. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES AND STANDARDS Promotes the philosophy and mission of the center among all other staff members and customers. Answers incoming telephone calls to the unit promptly and professionally. Transfers these calls and takes and delivers messages accordingly. Welcomes all visitors onto the unit and politely directs them to their desired destinations. Schedules resident appointments and arranges related transportation to and from these appointments. Maintains the residents' medical records with appropriate forms and in good repair. Notifies the Health Information Management Coordinator if charts require thinning. Demonstrates knowledge regarding the center's crisis codes, such as fire, cardiac arrest, bomb threats, or patient elopements, and is able to announce them correctly on the loud speaker when directed necessary. Stocks the nursing unit with appropriate forms and business supplies. Maintains a clean and organized nursing station and unit. Contacts other departments as needed, such as dietary, maintenance, and house keeping to ensure that the unit's residents are receiving optimal customer service from the necessary staff members. Pulls and delivers charts as directed. Enters computer data as directed. Conducts chart audits as directed. Updates and distributes resident lists, including but not limited to, fall prevention measures. Creates and distributes resident name bands and room signs as directed. Provides completed Elopement Risk Forms to the receptionist as directed. Monitors residents who leave the nursing unit and notifies the supervisor immediately if a resident in the Elopement Book is trying the leave the unit. Performs other duties as assigned. Prepares for and participates in center's regulatory surveys as directed by supervisor. Adheres to all safety policies including reporting hazards immediately. Demonstrates knowledge of and ability to apply principles of Infection Control, Fire, and Disaster policies. Demonstrates knowledge of the rights and dignity of residents, staff, and community and applies this knowledge while on the job. Maintains the confidentiality of resident and center information.
