The USC Dana and David Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences seeks an Audio-Visual Technician to join the Department of Anthropology/Center for Visual Anthropology. The largest and oldest of the USC schools, USC Dornsife functions as the academic core of the university, offering courses and advancing knowledge across the humanities, social sciences and natural sciences.

Responsibilities and desired qualifications include:
General interest and experience with, online systems, including website maintenance and development and an ability to play a leading role in troubleshooting all digital communication and hosting at a departmental level, serving as a liaison with DTS as needed.

Good practical understanding of visual and sound recording equipment, both analog and digital, ability to maintain equipment and assemble kits for checkout; experience managing an online checkout system in a university context; capacity to make recommendations to students and faculty on how to use equipment in a variety of field contexts; familiarity with all relevant software and licensing agreements (Adobe Creative Cloud Suite and especially Premiere Pro; Pro Logic; and previously Final Cut Pro 7 [and earlier] and X).

Ability to support related tech in anthropology classrooms, in virtual meetings, including installation and maintenance of AV equipment for classroom activity, as well as walk-through instructions for students as needed.

Coordinate exercises, training, and demonstrations with faculty/lecturers, staff and students and provide training in the use of audiovisual equipment and facilities as needed (in-person or virtually).

Transport, set up, and disassemble equipment as needed.

Ability to develop professional relationships with faculty, staff, students and outside visitors, to keep operations moving and assist with events.

Run tests on equipment and troubleshoot any problems that arise.

Performing inventory management on equipment and accessories.

Conducting or supervising any cleaning, maintenance, or repairs of equipment.

Communicate with internal departments/offices: FMS, ITS, Architectural Dept. Services to aid on technical matters.

Monitor expenses for materials, supplies, repairs, maintenance, and projects and provide information to Department management.

Ability to support post-production sound mixing.

Ability to maintain inventory of all Dept. and CVA holdings, oversee all purchasing and licensing of materials in consultation with the faculty, and support faculty in classroom needs.

Ability to archive materials produced by Dept. students and faculty or sponsored by the CVA, maintaining a database, transferring and converting to digital format, and preparing them for distribution.

Ability to assist in the production of promotional media for the Dept. and CVA, as well as provide technical assistance with all events and conferences.

Design, create, construct and/or adapt equipment and materials to meet specific needs of facility, event site and virtual meeting.

Adhere to and enforce facility procedures and practice and ensure compliance with safety standards of operation.

Ensure compliance and communication to internal and external constituents for proper handling and use of facilities, equipment and materials.

Schedule use of editing lab/equipment to meet needs of faculty and student member projects.

Manage online equipment checkout system. Recommend how to effectively use equipment. Maintain digital inventory of department holdings, oversee purchasing and licensing.

Provide technical support and advice to faculty and students conducting ethnographic projects.

Ability to perform general clerical duties; schedule meetings/calendaring, compose reports and use standard office software (e.g. Word, Excel and PowerPoint) as well as USC online systems.

Aesthetic interests and aptitude with some background in visual or other arts highly valuable.

Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. The university reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.

Audio Visual Technician Requirements:
In-depth working knowledge of camera and lighting techniques.

Strong working knowledge of audiovisual editing equipment and software.

Excellent computer, website and troubleshooting skills.

Creativity, attention to detail, and flexibility.

Proactive and anticipate challenges.

Strong communication, customer service, and organizational skills.

The ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.

Physical fitness to transport and set up heavy equipment.

Good hearing and eyesight.

Preferred Education:
Bachelor's degree
