The mission of the UMBC Education Department is to advance research on teaching and learning and develop educators who are caring, thoughtful, knowledgeable, skilled, and responsive. The education department offers a wide range of accredited programs that include early childhood education, elementary education, secondary education, and TESOL. The department is engaged in a number of university, state, national and international collaborations, including an expansive Professional Development Schools network, grants with the Department of Defense, the National Science Foundation and the U.S. Department of Education, as well as the Sherman Scholars Program that prepares teachers to serve in urban and high-need schools in the region.
The successful candidate will work alongside our nationally and internationally recognized and award-winning faculty. We are deeply committed to supporting new faculty and there are a number of support programs including: start-up funds, summer fellowships, and the Eminent Scholar Mentoring Program, which links tenure-track faculty at the Assistant rank with external mentors of their choice.
The visiting lecturer will work closely with the Directors of Early Childhood Teacher Education, Elementary Teacher Certification, Office of Field Experience and Clinical Practice and the Department Chair to support students enrolled in teacher certification programs that are pursuing certification in Early Childhood and Elementary Education.  In this role, the visiting lecturer will have primary responsibility for leading course instruction, student advising, field-based supervision and supporting programmatic assessments (e.g. edTPA) within the early childhood teacher certification program. 
The visiting lecturer will maintain a 4/4 course equivalent teaching load for the 2022/23 academic year.
Description of Duties:
The candidate's duties will include a combination of the following:
Teaching courses in the Early Childhood Education program Supervision of ECE and ELEM (if needed) interns Advising students enrolled in the ECE program Supporting ECE students in the completion of MD state mandated program assessments for licensure (e.g., edTPA, Praxis, TRE) Required Qualifications The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:
Education
Master's Degree or above Experience
Public school teaching experience at the PK- grade 3 level (3 years required, 5+ preferred). Intern supervision experience at the PK- grade 3 level Teacher education courses (1 year required), (3+ preferred) Licensure
Teaching Licensed (former or current), MD (preferred), ECE grade band included Applications should include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and a writing samples.
