DescriptionPosition at Newton Animal Hospital Newton Animal Hospital is looking to welcome a full-time veterinary technician to our team! We are a 4-doctor general practice located in Newton on the Watertown line. We pride ourselves on our bright and welcoming environment and focus on providing high quality personalized care to our patients. Our Ideal Candidate: An individual who is passionate about animal care, highly motivated, and pays attention to detail. Our veterinary technicians are the heartbeat of our team and work side by side with our veterinarians in exams and during procedures. A full-time position would require working between 30-40 hours a week, which includes a combination of weekday (8:30am-5:30pm) and Saturday (9am-1pm) shifts.
Job Duties and Key Skills: Assisting DVMs during procedures by restraining animals, conducting tests, monitoring vitals, and administering medications as appropriate (oral, subcutaneous, intramuscular or IV medication administration as directed by DVM).Maintaining medical records and communicating with clients regarding their pets' medical procedures, including discharge/home care instructions and next steps.Maintaining exam rooms and treatment room, including maintenance of equipment such as anesthetic machines/monitors, x-ray machines, dental and autoclaving/lab equipment.Must be comfortable and confident handling dogs of all sizes and cats"Comfortable with patient triage and troubleshooting client concerns and questions.Collecting blood and other samples for testingPlacing IV cathetersTaking digital radiographs (x-rays)Dentistry, including taking digital dental radiographs and ultrasonic scaling and polishingAnesthesia monitoring and assessing patient's statusPerforming postoperative nursing care, including pain management. Job Requirements: -Previous veterinary experience is required. Surgical and dental experience a plus but not required. We are happy to help the right candidate grow into this role!

Compensation: Starting rate ranges from $18 - $24/hour. Compensation is commensurate with experience.
