Experience and Education  High School diploma, or equivalent, and two (2) years' experience working with animals in a clinical or research setting required.  Certified by the American Association of Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) is preferred.  Job Duties  Assist the ARC veterinary staff to provide research and health care support for a wide variety of species.  Able to routinely work in the animal facility without direct supervision.  Perform physical examinations under the general supervision of Animal Resource Center (ARC) veterinarians.  Provide pre- and post-operative animal monitoring.  Maintain animal health and study related records as required by the IACUC and ARC policy.  Able to perform routine diagnostic testing utilizing common laboratory equipment.  Examples would include internal and external parasite examinations, PCV and total protein and urinalysis.  Work comfortably in a microbiological barrier facility as well as ABSL-2 and ABSL-3 containment areas.  Obtain routine blood collections from research animals.  Perform antigen injections and sample collections for antibody production in research animals.  Maintain appropriate medical records as required.  Assist in maintaining surveillance of investigator research protocols.  Participate in University mandated training such as MRI, Radiation Safety and Blood Borne Pathogens.  Perform other duties as assigned.  Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Work requires good working knowledge of various types of equipment used in veterinary medicine, surgery, radiology, and related procedures.  Work requires accuracy in preparing materials, recording data, and maintaining records of work performed.  Work requires use of good judgment in application of policy, procedures, or practices to work problems.  Work requires exposure to one or more disagreeable elements or hazardous materials, such as animal odors and contact with animals which may harbor diseases. Work requires exposure to hazardous biological products.  Work requires ability to lift 50 pounds.  Working Conditions Work is performed primarily in laboratory area.  To learn more about the benefits UT Southwestern offers visit
