High school diploma or equivalency and two years of visual/graphic arts experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

University Communications is within the division of Strategic Initiatives and External Affairs. University Communications manages media relations, critical and crisis communications, serves as an in-house advertising and PR agency for university clients, and promotes and supports major university events and initiatives. Its mission is to share the unique essence and energy of Appalachian and its people through strategic, creative and dynamic communications that promote the university and its many constituents.
The University Photographer is responsible for representing the "look and feel" of the Appalachian brand to external audiences through photography and videography. The University Photography will provide video production support and digital photography for the Department of University Communications, with a strong emphasis on photo-journalism style. This position is also responsible for photographs of university special events, sporting events, campus environment, and environmental portraiture. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required for this Position Produce professional-quality digital photographs Produce professional quality, color-corrected digital images ready for print Strong understanding of Digital Photography formats Clear understanding of Photojournalism style Strong understanding of lighting for portraitures Preferred Qualifications Four year degree with a concentration in photography. Minimum 1 year experience photographing executive-level events and senior university officials, including Chancellor and Trustees. Work Schedule/Hours: Primarily 8am-5pm Monday through Friday with some early morning, night and weekend work required.
Anticipated Hiring Range: $36,152 - $43,410
