Position Type: Full-time; Non-Exempt
Minimum Hourly Rate : $19.58 (Pay depending on experience).

About This Opportunity: The City of Maryville is hiring an Underground Utility Location Technicians. This position performs intermediate semiskilled work locating and marking underground utility lines owned by the City, preparing reports and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Utility Construction Inspector Supervisor.
Essential Functions: Receives locates from TN 811; creates locate tickets; prioritizes locates; completes locates within 72 hours of receipt; organizes route daily. Receives and responds to inquiries via email and phone from the public, other departments, excavators, etc. Prepares reports; prepares and maintains files and records. Makes recommendations for payment of damages and/or civil penalties of fines through Police Departments and courts. Locates water, electric and sewer lines that are owned by the City of Maryville using available map system books for each utility, various locators, and drawings and plans. Takes pictures of utility damages to utility lines by customers and City crews; assesses liability and responsibility. Receives and responds to locates after hours, weekends and holidays on an emergency basis. Attends training courses as required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Thorough knowledge of line locators and their operation. General knowledge of utility systems. Ability to read and interpret maps and drawings. Ability to apply paint to mark lines. Ability to communicate with customers in miscellaneous duties as needed. Ability to open housing on transformers, secondary pedestals, water meters, valve covers, and manhole lids. Education and Experience High school diploma or GED and moderate experience in construction, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements Possession of a driver's license valid in the State of Tennessee.
