Undergraduate Medical Education Administrative Director
The Administrative Director is a senior leader and manager within the Undergraduate Medical Education unit (UME). This role ensures efficiency and consistency in operational procedures, policies, and personnel considerations across departments and teams (Admissions, Assessment and Evaluation, Curriculum, and Student Affairs). The Administrative Director serves as a resource for specialists in medical education finance, human resources, informatics, and communications, providing leadership, support, and strategic communications. The Administrative Director reports to the Senior Associate Dean for UME and supports the evolving projects and priorities within UME. Position Highlights:
The University of Minnesota Medical School is a large public medical school with over 900 medical students located on three campuses in the Twin Cities, Duluth, and St. Cloud.  Our students become physician leaders in rural primary care and in all fields of healthcare and biomedical research,   Operating in vibrant, integrated, accountable, academic, urban and rural health care communities, we are positioned to âœclose the gaps' between current medical education and practice.  The Office of Undergraduate Medical Education, led by the Senior Associate Dean for UME, is responsible for medical education across the undergraduate continuum of Admissions, Curriculum, Student Affairs, Assessment and Evaluation, and accreditation. Reporting Relationship:
Reports to the Senior Associate Dean for Undergraduate Medical Education. Duties/Responsibilities: 35%: Strategy and Planning Initiates and implements strategic and operational business plans, programs, policies, and priorities across the Undergraduate Medical Education continuum, a large-scale, bedrock unit in the Medical School Oversees all aspects of strategic operations, including human resources, budget and financial management, facilities and space management, and information technology In collaboration with each unit leader, provide oversight of the medical educator appointment process to ensure roles are posted, recruited, appointed and compensated appropriately Serves as content expert and liaison between UME and Office of Human Resources for policy decisions, updates, employee engagement, and non-routine personnel circumstances; also works across teams within UME with a goal of continuity in position descriptions, classifications, and compensation. Implements staff professional development priorities in collaboration with the Director of GME (i.e., implicit bias training) Collaborate with Events Management on key events with UME including White Coat Ceremony, Orientation, Commencement, and Dean's Tribute to Excellence in Education 10%: Strategic Storytelling and Reputation Management Identifies, develops, and pioneers strategic partnerships across the Medical School, Health Sciences, and greater University community Creates original reports, documents, presentations, and other publications to advance the Unitâ™s mission Maintains UME Education Awards process, distribution, and communications Works with the medical school advancement team (Communications, University of Minnesota Foundation, alumni relations and government relations) to communicate key initiatives to community stakeholders. 35%: Financial Planning and Budget Oversight Develops, implements, and maintains sound financial policies, procedures, and practices for the Office of UME and the Deanâ™s tuition allocation model (approximately $16 million total Oversee operational budgets for UME units in collaboration with leadership and in partnership with the Deanâ™s Office Finance team. Conducts financial planning and management to ensure successful financial performance and ethical stewardship of University resources. 20%: Operations/Administrative Management Provides strategic oversight across all three campuses. Provides analytical support in resolving day-to-day issues Supervises, coaches, and develops administrative support teams. Provides oversight and leadership to the undergraduate intern pool (10-12 students) Serves as administrative director for Summer Internship in Medical Education Program, co-supervising 6-10 medical students on various projects each summer. Salary: $110,000-130,000 DOQ
Required Qualifications: Requires a BA/BS degree with at least 8 years of experience Prior oversight of a small department or cross-disciplinary team.   Background and experience in leadership, budget management, and/or team management.  Must have experience in strategic thinking, detail coordination, and project oversight.  Requires ability to function independently, anticipate and resolve problems and influence individuals and teams who do not report directly.  Preferred Qualifications: Master's Degree with experience in medical education and educational leadership preferred  Candidates should have experience working closely with stakeholders at multiple levels within an organization.   Evidence of problem solving and decision making skills is highly desirable.  Demonstrated success in process improvement and strategic planning is a plus.
