This position will support the Director of Tribal Relations, NAGPRA Administrator and the Office of Government and Community Relations Associate Vice President in the University's compliance activities and reports related to the federal and state NAGPRA legislation, including California Assembly Bills 275 and 389. Compliance with AB 275 and 389 will require a multi-phase process of inventory, consultation, correspondence, visitation, and eventually repatriation of curated collections to Native American tribes. In addition, will assist in compiling and managing records for the campus regulatory compliance supporting materials related to NAGPRA and CALNAPRA for the University. Lastly this position will provide additional support to the Office of Government and Community Relations as county and local outreach and community partnerships continue to grow CSUSB's programs and services.
Duties and responsibilities
Tribal Relations

The Government, Tribal and Community Relations Administrative position supports the Tribal Relations Director, NAGPRA Administrator in accomplishing tribal relations-based goals. This includes: coordinating all travel arrangements, including travel authorizations and claims, registrations and reservations, and documentation for meetings, conferences and associated activities; maintaining accurate and current calendars, including scheduling meetings, events and teleconferences; responding in a timely way to visitors, phone calls, and electronic and other correspondence and inquires; preparing accurate and proofread meeting minutes; reconciling and reporting monthly on the tribal relations activities; maintaining electronic and paper filing systems; preparing contact reports; maintaining the office procedures and policies manual related to tribal relations; and coordinating and preparing background materials for meetings, events, teleconferences, specialized reports containing sensitive information under general direction. Position organizes, supports, and staffs tribal relation events and meetings, such as: campus visits by tribal nations; Native American committee on-campus meetings with federal, state, and local government agencies or community organizations. This includes; creating accurate invitation lists; processing invitations and meeting notices; tracking responses and maintaining accurate guest lists; coordinating and confirming event/meeting venues, technology support, catering services, event set-up, supplies, and parking and other event requirements; understanding and utilizing event protocols; coordinating proclamations; creating event and meeting agendas; drafting communications to attendees and supporting parties; generating and maintaining planning guidelines; coordinating with presenters, panelists and other key participants; assisting in the research and creation of electronic presentations and collateral materials; and tracking event and meeting expenses. Keeps the Tribal Relations website updated in a timely manner.
Office of Government & Community Relations

Supports the Associate Vice President for Government and Community Relations with the office functions including supporting and staffing on campus events, campus visits and community events. Researches, summarizes, and analyzes information, compiling data to prepare reports containing sensitive information under general direction.
Other classification related duties as assigned.



Minimum Qualifications: High School diploma or its equivalent Five years of progressively responsible experience in general clerical or secretarial work or equivalent Required Qualifications: Ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures independently and use judgement and discretion to act when precedents do not exist. Ability to troubleshoot most office administration problems and respond to all inquiries and requests related to tribal nations. Ability to understand problems from a broader perspective and anticipate the impact of office administration problems and administration and solutions on other areas. Ability to write and present own reports. Ability to effectively handle interpersonal interactions at all levels and handle highly sensitive interpersonal situations. Ability to use negotiation and persuasion skills to achieve results and expedite projects. Knowledge of standard office policies and procedures. Knowledge and skill using personal computers and business office software packages such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) or other data management systems. Thorough mastery of English grammar, punctuation, and spelling. Preferred Qualifications: General understanding of Tribal history and Sovereignty. Knowledge of working with elected, appointed officials, agencies, and sovereign nations. Knowledge of budget and travel policies and processes. Experience effectively navigating and contributing to multiple projects concurrently, ensuring optimal resource allocation, meeting deadlines, and delivering high-quality outcomes. Experience working in large organizations. Compensation and Benefits:


Anticipated Hiring Range: $3,700 - $4,200 per month


Classification Salary Range: $3,865 - $6,336 per month


The salary offered will take into account internal equity and experience among other factors.


The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 15 paid holidays a year. Position Information:


Full-time Non-Exempt Probationary



Academic year schedule: Monday through Friday (8:00 am - 5:00 pm), some evenings/weekends. Summer schedule: Monday through Thursday (7:00 am - 5:30 pm), some evenings/weekends.

Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.



Drivers License Check


Possession of a valid Driver's License is required. Employees in this position will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Government Employer Pull Notice Program which confirms possession of a valid driver's license and reflects driving record.



Mandated Reporter


The person holding this position is considered a `mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.



Campus Security Authority


This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) position under the federal Jeanne Cleary Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act. CSAs are responsible for reporting allegations of Clery Act Crimes reported to them or that they witness. CSA training is required.
