This position serves as the Statewide Bridge Management Systems (BMS) specialist responsible for supporting web-based bridge management solutions for MDOT staff, Local Agency bridge owners, consultants, and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). This position provides primary program functionality evaluation, technical assistance, training, and support for the Michigan Bridge Management and Inspection System (MiBRIDGE) and AASHTOWare Bridge Management (BrM) software; provides training and support to MDOT staff, local agency bridge owners, and engineering consultants in the use of the data management systems used for collecting and maintaining Michigan's Bridge Inventory data, including reviewing user profile requests, troubleshooting BMS software issues, and beta testing new software releases; participates in the National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) Committee as a technical resource for the development and implementation of MDOT's BMS; assists the National Bridge Inventory (NBI) Specialist with bridge data collection and data entry for the Michigan Bridge Inventory; reviews and processes permit applications for hazardous waste sites required for future bridge construction projects and maintains the Department's database that monitors the status of these permits as well as the structure hazardous waste sites.
The "Salary" listed above is a range that reflects the minimum rate through the maximum rate of the Transportation Technician 12 position.

Education Possession of an associate degree in concrete technology, civil technology, construction technology, surveying technology, construction management, mathematics, or computer science.
Experience Four years of experience equivalent to a Transportation Technician, including two years equivalent to a Transportation Technician E10 or one year equivalent to a Transportation Technician 11.
Transportation Technician 8 - 12
Possession of a bachelor's degree or higher in an Applied Science with 16 semester hours (24 term) credits in job specific or related course work qualifies for the Transportation Technician E10 level. 
OR
Completion of 60 semester (90 term) credits including 24 semester (36 term) credits in any combination of course work in the following areas: structures, materials, soils, hydrology, surveying, design, bituminous, concrete, aggregate, chemistry, physics, geology, environmental science, computer science, highway or traffic technology, construction management, engineering, or mathematics may be substituted for the associate degree.
OR
Four years of technician level experience consisting of quality control inspections, drafting, materials and testing, surveying, or traffic may be substituted for the associate degree.
OR
Current certification in bituminous (hot mix), concrete, density testing, or aggregate gradation and one year of related field experience may be substituted for the associate degree.
OR
Current certification in bituminous (hot mix), concrete, density testing, or aggregate gradation and three years' experience equivalent to a Transportation Maintenance Worker 9 may be substituted for the associate degree.
OR
Current certification in bituminous (hot mix), concrete, density testing, or aggregate gradation and completion of 16 semester (24 term) credits in any combination of course work in the following areas: structures, materials, soils, hydrology, surveying, design, bituminous, concrete, aggregate, chemistry, physics, geology, environmental science, computer science, highway or traffic technology, construction management, engineering, or mathematics may be substituted for the Associate's degree. Possession of a valid driver's license is required.
