FUNCTIONAL PURPOSE:
The purpose of this position is assisting the Corridor Supervisor in coordinating an area/corridor of bus drivers and bus monitors ensuring all routes are properly covered, performing route coverage as needed. Additionally, position supports the Corridor Supervisor in communicating with assigned area drivers and addressing/resolving issues promptly assuring safe and timely transportation of students.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Ensures adequate staffing to transport all students to/from school in a safe, timely, and efficient manner complying with all local, state, and federal laws & regulations. Provides route coverage when needed. Notifies drivers of route changes or additions for morning and/or afternoon buses. Locates and schedules substitute bus drivers/assistants to cover routes for absent personnel. Instruct substitute drivers on routing, schedules and other factors necessary to perform effectively. Document and track "call-ins" from drivers to ensure all routes are covered and timekeeping is reported accurately. Monitors radio and phone for updates regarding student drop-off or mechanical issues, responding promptly to resolve. Review GPS Map and provide drivers with directions and street locations throughout routes. Assigns activity runs to bus drivers upon school request and ensure necessary documentation is provided to and completed by the driver in a timely manner. Maintains required transportation records: list of students, incident reports, route and designated bus stops, schedules, etc. Assists Corridor Supervisor with monitoring road conditions during inclement weather and accident/incident investigation when needed. Thorough knowledge of state and local laws, regulations, and guidelines regarding bus routes, stops, driver requirements, safety related precautions and the operation of passenger buses; including pre and post-trip bus safety inspection procedures. Provides guidance to area bus drivers and monitors in collaboration with/absence of Corridor Supervisor making necessary decisions to ensure route coverage. May include on-site accident/incident investigations when needed. Collects, verifies, and approves timekeeping/payroll documentation for assigned employees. Assists Corridor Supervisor by providing insight to needed bus routes, bus runs, and appropriate staffing model to reach optimum efficiency and safest transportation of students in assigned area. Performs other related duties as assigned. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of state and local laws, regulations, and guidelines regarding bus routes, stops, driver requirements, safety related precautions and the operation of passenger buses; including pre and post-trip bus safety inspection procedures. Thorough knowledge of transportation monitoring systems or GPS, ability to perform arithmetical calculations and skill to read/understand a map. Working knowledge of special requirements essential to meeting the needs physically, mentally, and emotionally disabled students. Ability to safely operate a school bus and monitor student behavior. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administration, bus drivers/assistants and students. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite - Outlook, Excel and Word. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Minimum: High School Diploma/GED and two (2) years transportation vocation work experience or equivalent combination. Desirable: Associates Degree/Completion of technical trade school or vocational college and three (3) years' experience in transportation vocation including one (1) year leadership role experience. CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS: Must obtain a valid NC CDL driver's license with both P and S endorsements, maintain a satisfactory driving record, and have access to a vehicle during work hours to travel to meetings or other work sites as assigned. DOT drug testing performed on a random basis.
