By joining our Shelbyville Section as a Transportation Engineer Supervisor in Shelby County, you will have the opportunity to oversee the activities of professional and technical personnel in the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of highway structures or facilities.
Holders of the Transportation Engineer Supervisor position will complete tasks such as: Oversee road construction and maintenance projects Review and analyze data to coordinate the planning/design/oversight of transportation facilities Manage contractors, materials suppliers, and consultants regarding road construction and road maintenance projects Confer with local officials, departmental engineers, county maintenance, and special operations crews on technical and operational issues Holders of this job will obtain the following skills: Learn KYTC policy Make routine and final inspections and acceptance of road construction and maintenance projects Interpret and draft professional and technical papers and reports Determine proper expenditure of funds for various transportation construction projects Desired candidates should possess the following requisite skills or experience applicable to the position: Experience in road construction Additional Information: Employees may encounter rough terrain. EDUCATION: See Special Requirements.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have two years of engineering experience in addition to that required for licensure as a professional engineer.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: A master's degree in engineering will substitute for one year of the required experience. Graduate work in engineering beyond a master's degree will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: NONE
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must possess a valid driver's license prior to employment in this job classification. Must be licensed as a professional engineer by the Kentucky Board of Engineers and Land Surveyors OR must be licensed in another state with the ability to obtain a Professional Engineering license from the Kentucky Board of Engineers and Land Surveyors within the employee's initial six month probationary period. Engineering decisions recommended by individuals without a Kentucky Professional Engineering License must be approved by a KRS Chapter 322 Licensed Professional Engineer until licensure is obtained. Working Conditions
Work is performed in the office and in the field. Will be exposed to risks inherent to construction sites which require the following of safety procedures.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
