Working under the direct supervision of the Lead Patient Transporter, the Patient Transporter is responsible for transporting patient, charts and required equipment to various treatment and diagnostic areas throughout the hospital in a safe and efficient manner. Principle Accountabilities: % of Time Spent
1. Follows established department procedure to accurately verify and transport the proper patient by visually checking patient identification band or verifying with nursing staff; reports maintenance needs and safety hazards to Supervisor, Secretary or Director. 5% Measured by: Supervisory observation, documented discrepancies, and as reported by others.
2. Transports patients, charts and required equipment to various treatment and diagnostic areas throughout the hospital in a safe and courteous manner according to department policy and procedure 100% of the time. 70%
3. Reports to nursing unit or control desk and notifies staff of patient being transported and destination; verifies mode of transportation and inquires of patient's special needs. Obtains patient's chart and other necessary paperwork or equipment. 5%
4. Notifies dispatcher of completion of assigned duties and proceeds as instructed. If a delay or problem occurs in transporting a patient, transporter informs dispatcher immediately and proceeds according to instructions issued. Some record keeping is necessary. 10%
5. Maintains department equipment in a clean, safe and serviceable condition; following department 'Lock Out/Tag Out' policy and procedure, removes unsafe equipment from service in a timely manner 100% of the time. Collects, cleans and performs minor repairs on equipment at designated times per established department procedures. 10%
6. Performs other work duties as assigned.
High School graduate or equivalent preferred

A)Experience?Previous patient transporting experience preferred, but not required.
B)Skills and Abilities?Ability to read, write and follow verbal and written instructions. After brief training, has knowledge of correct patient transfer methods from bed to stretcher, chair to wheelchair, etc. Good interpersonal and organizational skills; good communication skills; ability to adapt to changing needs. The assessment provided by the Patient Transporter will be consistent with the specific age related needs of the patient. The Patient Transporter is competent to care for patient age groups including the adolescent, adult and geriatric adult patient.
