This position operates a public bus in the transportation of persons according to a predetermined route and timetable while maintaining order on the city bus. The traffic painter assistant is semi-skilled work, involving the application of pavement markings and the installation of signing for vehicular and pedestrian traffic. This position will be responsible for the use of proper sign and pavement marking materials and strict adherence to municipal, state and federal standards in sign placement and pavement markings. Work will be performed under limited supervision and reviewed while in progress and upon completion.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLIITIES
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
-Safely operate a large passenger bus in moderate to heavy traffic.
-Collect and tally appropriate fares.
-Issue and collect transfers.
-Sell punch passes.
-Board and alight passengers at established stops.
-Load and secure wheelchair bound passengers at established stops.
-Give clear and detailed directions to passengers in response to questions.
-Maintain order in the vehicle and at the transit center.
-Prepare clear and detailed written reports.
-Follow all safety practices and standards.
-Clearly broadcast ADA required announcements in English.
-Act as an ambassador for the transit system.
-Assist passengers when necessary or requested.
-Perform related work as required.
-Must be willing to work a flexible schedule.
Perform and assist fellow employees with the following:
-Paint or tape crosswalks, centerlines, lane lines, directional arrows and parking lot and stalls.
-Perform proper paint mixing, cleaning and repair of paint and tape equipment.
-Remove obsolete pavement markings.
-Assemble and install all types of signs on such objects as posts, buildings, and overhead sign structures.
-Install and maintain signposts.
-Perform record keeping duties such as work orders, daily entry work order activity.
-Operate a variety of tools and equipment: such as hand tools, power tools, manual post drivers and pullers, manual rollers and brushes, tape application devices.
-Assist in other Transportation Department activities such as compiling traffic engineering data, counting vehicular and pedestrian traffic, and recording traffic patterns. May be called upon to assist in unskilled work in the Transit and Electrical Divisions.
-Acquire knowledge of the safe use of all equipment, tools, paint and sign products, vehicles and miscellaneous facility devices. Will be responsible for reporting all safety hazards and accidents.
-Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and experience:
-Graduation from high school or equivalent.
-Previous driving experience with buses or trucks.
-Ability to work flexible work schedules involving split shifts.
-Possess and maintain a valid Class B, Commercial Driver's License, with passenger endorsement and no air brake restriction and a good driving record.
