Under administrative direction, the purpose of the position is to perform administrative and supervisory work in the planning, organization, coordination, direction and implementation of school district maintenance, repair and construction activities associated with facilities maintenance and/or one (1) or more of the craft civil or mechanical trades. Such areas include, but are not limited to, HVAC, carpentry, painting, electrical, plumbing, asphalt and concrete, refrigerant recovery and recycling, roofing, property control/warehousing, and communication systems. Employees in this classification generally perform administrative, supervisory and hands on duties associated with the primary trade, or may be assigned to a specific functional area such as construction management. Incumbents bring and apply technical knowledge and skills to the assigned functional area. Essential functions as outlined herein are performed according to the area of assignment. Performs related work as directed.
EXAMPLESOF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Responds to internal and external customers in a timely, accurate, courteous and empathetic manner representing OCPS in a positive light.
Provides planning, organization, coordination, direction and implementation in school district maintenance, repair and construction activities associated with one (1) or more of the craft civil or mechanical trades.
Works collaboratively with district maintenance and construction personnel, other applicable departments, private/public contract service providers, and school administration in planning, coordinating and implementing tasks and projects.
Reviews and/or assists in preparation of contracts and/or bids and associated specifications for vendors, contractors and/or service providers.
Receives and critically reviews maintenance, service, repair, or construction orders and requests, as well as any preliminary plans and proposals to determine feasibility/advisability.
Serves as point of contact between facility construction and maintenance teams. May be assigned to follow specific projects from planning through warranty period.
Enters Warranty Work Requests for new construction in business operating system and coordinates with facility construction team and contractors/subcontractors to ensure timely and correct completion of all warranty work.
Conducts proposed job site inspections for the purpose of identifying and determining project specifications, i.e., manpower allocation, crews, equipment, materials.
Prioritizes and coordinates project specifics required per job site; supervises and delegates tasks to personnel under charge. Inspects progress of on-going projects; provides upper-level management with information concerning project status or any relevant special concerns; ensures adherence to approved plans and specifications.
Plans and schedules major repairs, renovations, and construction projects and activities in a manner to minimize disruption in routine school district activities.
Interacts with private consultants/contractors, as applicable, and inspects and monitors contractual work for compliance with plans and specifications.
Assists in the management of the unit by preparing budget documents/estimates, monitoring expenditures, developing plans and schedules, and formulating standard procedures.
Ensures adherence to prescribed preventive maintenance schedules and established district safety and accident prevention policies and standards.
Ensures compliance with and adherence to applicable codes, ordinances, building, and safety standards governing public school systems' construction, maintenance and repair activities.
Reviews and/or prepares various records, logs and reports applicable to work under charge, i.e., scopes of work, purchase orders and invoices, cost estimates, material requests, inventory reports, service records.
Reviews work requirements and makes recommendations regarding performing work in house or contracting out. May be required to perform labor, as necessary, to provide efficient operation and/or completion of work.
Prioritizes unscheduled maintenance or repair orders; responds to emergency or critical incidents in order to confine, resolve, and/or prevent injurious or otherwise environmentally hazardous conditions.
Oversees the proper care, use and maintenance of equipment, tools, materials, and vehicles utilized; ensures adherence to principles and practices of safe equipment use and operation.
Responsible for keeping up to date on current technology, as job appropriate, being used by OCPS. With the support of the district, attends training to ensure skill level in various technologies is at the level required to perform in current position.
Responsible for timely and accurate information they maintain as part of their job responsibilities.

While the following tasks are necessary for the work of the unit, they are not an essential part of the purpose of this position and may also be performed by other unit members.
Performs related duties as directed. MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED and five (5) years progressively knowledgeable and technically skilled work in facilities maintenance and/or any of the craft civil or mechanical trades, a portion of which shall be in a lead worker capacity demonstrating ability to coordinate, delegate, and inspect specific duties and tasks of the work; with demonstrated technical knowledge of any applicable laws, codes, ordinances or other regulatory standards governing the trade; preferably for a large commercial or industrial institution; or and equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Vocational/technical training in one or more of the craft civil or mechanical trades preferred. Requires ability to obtain and maintain a valid Florida drivers' license. Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Materials Utilization : Requires the ability to operate, maneuver and/or control the actions of electric and gas-powered service equipment, as well as standard hand-held maintenance tools. Requires the ability to operate a computer and navigate typical office programs such as Word, Excel, Outlook, etc. Verbal Aptitude : Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of references, descriptive, design, and advisory data and information. Mathematical Aptitude : Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication and division; calculate decimals and percentages; utilize geometric principles and formulas. Functional Reasoning : Requires ability to apply principles of rational systems. Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form. Ability to exercise independent judgment to adopt or modify methods and standards to meet variations in assigned objectives. Situational Reasoning : Requires the ability to exercise the judgment, decisiveness and creativity required in situations involving the evaluation of information against sensory, judgmental, or subjective criteria, as opposed to that which is clearly measurable or verifiable. ADACOMPLIANCE Physical Ability : When assisting personnel under charge, tasks can involve the ability to exert very heavy physical effort in very heavy work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of heavy objects and materials (up to 100 pounds) and occasionally heavier items (100 pounds or over). Sensory Requirements : Some tasks may require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors. Some tasks may require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds. Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate depths. Most tasks require visual perception and discrimination. Some tasks require oral communications ability. Environmental Factors : When conducting inspection duties, tasks may present potential exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dust, fumes, wetness, humidity, machinery, vibrations, temperature and noise extremes, electrical currents, bright or dim lighting, and toxic/poisonous agents.
