The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for detail, a strong technical background, and a passion for creating high-quality machined parts.
Position Summary: The Tool-Maker/Machinist is responsible for operating and maintaining various machine tools to produce precision parts, tooling, and molds. This role requires a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail, as well as the ability to read blueprints, use precision measuring instruments, and apply advanced machining techniques.
Key Responsibilities: Machining Operations: Operate and maintain manual tooling machines, CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines is a plus, such as lathes, milling machines, grinders, and drill presses. Blueprint Interpretation: Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications to determine the dimensions and tolerances of finished workpieces. Precision Measurement: Use precision measuring instruments, such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges, to ensure parts meet exact specifications and tolerances. Quality Control: Conduct thorough inspections of machined Tooling and Molds to identify defects and ensure adherence to quality standards. Perform adjustments to machinery and tooling as needed to maintain product quality. Programming: Write and edit CNC programs to optimize machining processes and improve efficiency. Solid Works, Gibbs Cam, and Auto-Cad is a plus Tooling Setup: Select appropriate cutting tools, fixtures, and materials for machining operations. Set up machines and adjust controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth of cut. Materials: Steel H-13, P-20, S-7, etc. Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on machines and equipment to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime. Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe working environment. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure the workspace is clean and organized. Continuous Improvement: Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance manufacturing processes, reduce waste, and increase productivity. Qualifications: Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Completion of a machinist apprenticeship program or technical school training preferred. Experience: Minimum of 4 years of experience as a machinist in a manufacturing environment. Technical Skills: Proficiency in operating manual and CNC machines. Strong understanding of machining principles, tooling, and materials. Computer Skills: Familiarity with CNC programming software and CAD/CAM software is a plus. Analytical Skills: Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints and technical drawings. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Physical Stamina: Ability to lift heavy objects, stand for long periods, and perform repetitive tasks with precision. Communication: Good verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively with team members and supervisors. Working Conditions: Environment: Manufacturing floor with exposure to loud noise, moving machinery, and materials. Hours: Full-time position with overtime. Shop is opened 5:00am to 6:00pm. Set Schedule within those hours are negotiable.
