Functional Summary This position is responsible for operating a variety of heavy and light equipment as a member of a crew that specializes in laying asphalt, grading operations, drainage construction/maintenance or other crew operations involved in the construction, repair, and maintenance of roads and public properties.
Key Responsibilities: The responsibilities of the Equipment Operator include, but not limited to:
Equipment Operation
Opera te pickup trucks and various equipment commonly associated with asphalt paving operations, including but not limited to the following: asphalt roller, skid steer, power broom, shuttle buggy, milling machine, backhoe, excavator, loader, dozer and graders.
Significant use of hand tools, such as pavement saw, shovel and asphalt lutes Knowledge of safety protocols and the procedures used to control heavy equipment Coordination to use all the controls on pieces of equipment Possessing enough strength to operate the controls on heavy equipment Ability to remain stationary in the seat or operating area of the equipment for prolonged periods Problem-solving skills to diagnose issues with equipment Strong oral communication skills to interact with other workers on the jobsite Operate heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner. Perform daily maintenance and safety checks of equipment. Safety and Teamwork Promote, execute and adhere to the company's safety policy, and encourage all employees, subcontractors and consultants to adopt safety as a culture. Work in a safe, responsible manner to not intentionally or unintentionally injure oneself, or endanger the wellbeing of others. Promote a team approach and maintain dialogue with all employees to exchange information and gather ideas. Collaborate with any project teams on other special initiatives, as required. Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED but not required
Work Experience Minimum 2-3 years' experience within the road construction industry 1 to 2 years' experience operating a paving equipment is required Technical Knowledge Knowledge of heavy paving equipment Knowledge of road construction materials, road construction processes and industry requirements. Understanding of computerized controls and electronics. Working Conditions Out of town travel might be required Overtime as required. Work is performed in an outdoor setting, which could include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt. Use of Personal Protection Equipment is required. Must comply with the company's drug and alcohol testing requirements. Proper PPE is required at all times.
