Technology Trainer and Studio Specialist (Teaching and Learning Training Specialist 2 - MR08) UTC Library University of Tennessee at Chattanooga The Technology Trainer and Studio Specialist provides training in the use of the Microsoft 365 Suite and multimedia production software assistance to members of the UTC community. The position also provides consultation, demonstration, and troubleshooting for all Studio equipment and facilities that support Audio/Video production, print and graphic design, 3D modeling and printing, and other related activities. The position mediates access to Studio equipment and facilities by recommending and circulating equipment via monitoring reservations and on-demand requests. This position reports Sunday through Thursday 1:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. with occasional schedule adjustments to accommodate teaching responsibilities and the academic calendar.
Duties and Responsibilities: Software Training and Support Provides training and support for Microsoft 365 products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. This support includes: 1. Development and facilitation of a recurring workshop series and other programming as appropriate to accommodate the needs of the UTC community. 2. Individual technology training and support via consultations with members of the UTC community. 3. Development of online training and other resources. 4. Development and facilitation of internal training to Library staff members, in an effort to "train the trainers" who interact with users throughout the Library.
Public Service Provides on-demand individualized and group consultation, support, training, and troubleshooting to Studio users as it relates to Studio hardware, software, and facilities including: 24 workstations representing a mix of Windows and Mac operating systems; specialized hardware and software that enables: 1. A/V production: camera systems, microphones, mixers, lighting tools, green screen, digital audio workstations, image and video editing software, digitization hardware. 2. Print and graphic design: image, sound, and publishing software, scanners, art tablets, large format printers. 3. 3D modeling and printing: 3D printers and scanners, CAD and 3D modeling software Circulate Studio equipment including selection, demonstration, explanation of policy, and inspection; monitors and assists with facility and equipment; helps maintain an organized Studio space and equipment inventory; resolves patron conflicts or unusual service events, adjusting fines and fees, loan periods, or other factors as the situation requires; and staffs a second Library service point for 1-2 hours per week.
Other Duties Other duties as assigned, including but not limited to: contributes to Studio and Library-wide goals projects; gathers and reports departmental statistics; serves on Library and University committees; participates in Studio meetings and planning processes and suggests revisions to policies and enhancements to services; plans, executes, and assesses individual goals as part of the annual goal and review process; and be available to work outside of regularly scheduled hours on occasion.
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Ability to interact with a variety of constituencies both verbally and in writing including: students, staff, faculty, colleagues, etc.
Knowledge of the Microsoft 365 programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
Ability to explain concepts and skills related to Microsoft 365 to students, faculty, and staff who may represent a range of skill levels. Ability to work as part of a team in a complex, changing environment.
Ability to interpret policies and procedures and the ability to explain them to the constituencies above and enforce them fairly.
Ability to thrive in a rapidly changing environment.
Knowledge of any combination of audio production, video production, photography, animation, drafting, graphic design, publication design, and/or 3D design. Ability to use both Windows and Mac operating systems and learn new technology quickly. Proven ability to multitask, meet competing demands, and have great attention to detail. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and 1 year of experience in a public setting, teaching, technical training, or work in a multimedia environment; equivalent years of experience may be substituted for degree.
Preferred Qualifications: One year of experience in a library environment; and previous library, higher education, tutoring, training, or customer service experience.
