Job Duties: The Department of English at East Carolina University ( is seeking to fill three fixed-term faculty positions with the title of Teaching Instructor or Teaching Assistant Professor (depending upon qualifications) specializing in composition to begin in August 2024. These full-time non-tenure-track positions are for the ******** academic year, with the possibility of subsequent appointments. The full-time teaching load is typically four courses per semester. Teaching will consist of face-to-face courses, with the possibility that some online courses may be assigned, depending on department and university need. Depending upon a candidate's credentials, as well as the needs in the department, the Chair may assign other courses besides composition. Service to the university, community, and profession is expected. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications, and full-time positions include benefits.

Minimum qualifications for appointment as Teaching Assistant Professor include a PhD or MFA in English or a related field, including but not limited to Rhetoric/Composition, Writing Studies, or Technical Communication.

The department also supports general education for all majors across the university through Writing Foundations courses and courses that contribute to writing intensive, diversity, humanities, and social science general education requirements.
