Position Description In the summer and fall of 2024, UW Medical Center-Northwest and our new Center for Behavioral Health and Learning is seeking professionals to provide mental health evaluation and management to psychiatric patients as Teaching Associates :
Certified Physician Assistants (PA-C) or
Dual-certified Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioners (ARNP) in Psychiatric Mental Health (PMHNP) and in Primary Care (PCNP) There are currently (6) full-time (0.5-1.0 FTE) Teaching Associate faculty positions available, with additional openings likely available in the late summer of 2024. Teaching Associates hold annual appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30) and may be reappointed to subsequent annual terms. Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service. All clinical responsibilities are performed within the scope of practice, institutional privileges and with the collaboration of physician colleagues. The ideal candidate would work full time however, this may be flexible for the right candidate.

ABOUT THE CENTER FOR BEHAVIORAL HEALTH AND LEARNING The new Center for Behavioral Health and Learning, opening on the UW Medical Center - Northwest campus in 2024, offers an unparalleled opportunity to transform mental health care and to improve mental health care training in our state. Located in North Seattle, the new facility will feature 75 longer-term adult psychiatry beds, 25 geriatric psychiatry beds, 50 medical/surgical beds focused on patients with psychiatric comorbidities, and a state-of-the-art neuromodulation program. It will also house an interdisciplinary training and workforce development program focused on preparing and supporting the next generation of behavioral health providers for Washington State. The six-story building will be a beautiful place to work with lots of windows, natural lighting and open-concept spaces and will offer amenities including a new kitchen and dining area for patients, staff and visitors.

RESPONSIBILITIES Diagnose patients with mental illnesses; develop and implement patient treatment plans.
Works closely with psychiatrists and psychologists on the team.
Collaborates and consults with other disciplines and services to ensure safe, effective, and timely treatment as well as continuity of patient care. Care will be coordinated in a multidisciplinary fashion with collaborating services which may include:
Participates in patient rounds, conferences and committees.
Actively participates in the development and maintenance of patient management algorithms and standardized orders.
Documents patient care data in accordance with UWMC-NW and UWP policies
Performs assessments of patients' and caregivers' knowledge, attitudes, and actions around the mental health diagnosis and treatment issues.

Preferred Qualifications: PA requirements: minimum of 2 years of experience in a mental health setting required. Prefer candidates with CAQ in Psychiatry
ARNP requirements: minimum of 2 years of experience in a mental health setting and certified simultaneously as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) and a Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (PCNP).
Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program required.
Washington state licensure required
DEA licensure required within 30 days of privileging.
EMR experience required; prefer experience with Epic.
Distinguishing Characteristics The ARNP/PA-C at UWMC-NW functions within their scope of practice and collaborates effectively with other disciplines to provide state-of-the-art patient and family-centered mental health care.
Training and experience in the delivery of mental health care including medication management.
Excellent communication and clinical skills necessary to ensure optimum patient care outcomes in a complex care environment.
Respectful and ethical in their interactions with staff and patients alike
Skilled clinicians, providing evidence-based diagnosis and management of the acute, symptomatic, and supportive care needs of patients with mental health needs.
Educator to patients, clinicians, and staff - able to effectively communicate information about mental health processes, treatments, and management.

Salary The base salary range for this position will be: $9,167 - $16,167 per month ($110,000 - $194,000 annually) commensurate with years of experience as a licensed and dual-trained ARNP or PA-C , or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.
This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Other compensation associated with this position may include payments for vacancy coverage or premiums for factors such as acuity, nights, and call should they apply to service. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.
