About The RoleSchedule:14/14 - 12 hour daysPosition Reports To:Capital Projects ManagerPosition OverviewThe Tailings Dam Engineer (TDE) will be responsible for ensuring the Rainy River Mine is operating above industry best practices, while being a subject matter expert on all regulatory requirements that relates to tailings dams. The incumbent will strive for continuous improvement leading with integrity, creativity, innovation, and teamwork.Key ResponsibilitiesInstrumentationMentor and provide guidance for the Tailings Dam TechniciansImplementation and management of the geotechnical databaseManage all instrumentation infrastructure and data for the Rainy River Mine and provide quality assurance on data acquisitionDevelop risk assessment procedures based on instrumentation performance that recommend actions to maintain the sustainability of operations and safetyInspections & ReportingSubject matter expert on the Operation, Maintenance, and Surveillance (OMS) ManualMonthly, and annual instrumentation/construction reporting of tailings and water diversion structuresConduct and report on monthly inspections of all tailings dams and water diversion structuresManage the Action Log for previous and future Dam Safety Inspections and Dam Safety ReviewsDesignReview and perform design analyses, including stability and seepage analysesPreparation of technical deliverables such as proposals and reportsInput and review of the Tailings Deposition Plan and Water Balance ModelsInternal Tailings Review Board (ITRB)Act as the New Gold - Rainy River Mine liaison for the ITRBManage the Action Log for previous and future ITRB meetingsOtherWork closely with New Gold Capital Projects, Mine Operations, Environmental, and MillWork closely with design consultants and the Engineer of Record (EOR)Ensure the company's operation is operating within accordance to the Mining Association of Canada Guidelines (MAC)Subject matter expert on CDA Dam Safety GuidelinesWork on continuous improvement for Towards Sustainable Mining (TSM)Champion moving the operation to obtain AAA status with MAC guidelinesQualificationsDegree in Civil or Geotechnical EngineeringP. Eng. designation is requiredAt least 5 years' experience in dam and storage projects, preferably in an operational environmentKnowledge of Dam Industry guidelinesExperience in investigation and construction phase servicesSuperior oral and written communication skillsTeam player with good organizational skillsAbility to work independently in various environments when requiredWorking ConditionsSplit time between office and field (driving and walking)Occasional moderate lifting is required (50 lbs)Team environment, with regularly scheduled and ad hoc meetingsWhy New Gold?Highly competitive base salary, and a quarterly incentive programExtended Health & Dental BenefitShort-term and long-term disability insurance benefitDefined match contribution to group registered retirement savings accountCamp and Travel provided or Relocation Package
