The Systems and Data Engineer is responsible for keeping all school data processes running smoothly in support of day-to-day operations, strategic decision making, and regulatory compliance. This person is an expert in understanding, transforming, and summarizing data. The Systems and Data Engineer recognizes data relationships, and can pull together data from disparate sources into well-organized and meaningful reports. The incumbent collaborates with administration to define data policies, train staff on data processes, and ensure data accuracy.
Develop and maintain staff and student information systems for the Department of Special Education. Extract data from information systems as needed. Combine, transform, and arrange data to produce clear reports for stakeholders. Provide training to staff members how to interact with information systems as needed. Identify workflow inefficiencies to design improved data collection and integration strategies. Recommend improvements to data collection and data management processes, policies, and procedures. Create data for report testing and ensure that all reports and data sets in school information systems are thoroughly validated. Recommend solutions to data accuracy challenges. Work with School Leadership to identify appropriate solutions for the input and output of school information systems as well as advise on school information systems (SIS) growth strategy. Archive and maintain historical records of data stored in SIS. Assist with translation of end user workflow-based reports into specific data points required for report development. Identify and analyze gaps in reporting solutions to identify opportunities for additional integration and development. Ensure that end users are satisfied with reports and distribution tools. Design and develop multi-dimensional database and extract, transform and load (ETL) processes for streamlined data integration. EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree in computer sciences, math or information systems required .
EXPERIENCE: At least five years of applicable experience to include: Two years' experience working with SQL; and Experience with modifying HTML 1 year experience working with Oracle stack preferred. Experience in a school setting is preferred. Experience with the PowerSchool student information system is preferred. Experience with business intelligence software such as Crystal Reports is preferred.
