Description
The primary accountabilities below are intended to describe the general content of and requirements of this position and are not intended to be an exhaustive statement of duties. To assist in the development and management of programming in environmental, social and economic
sustainability. To direct development activities and seek external funding for the Sustainability program
from federal, state and private resources. To manage special projects in support of academic programs,
community outreach and sustainable energy. To represent UAB Sustainability in the community and at
regional and national meetings, to coordinate UAB Sustainability events and to direct student work on
special projects. ESSENTIAL ACCOUNTABILITIES: Acts as development official for UAB Sustainability. Develops and maintains relationships with local, regional, and national granting organizations, corporate representatives and individuals with the capacity to support Sustainability projects. Researches and keeps an active database of funding prospects. Writes proposals, creates budgets and manages reporting and compliance on grants, contracts and sponsorships. Communicates directly with the UAB Office of Development and the Office of Sponsored Programs. Manages special projects for UAB Sustainability in collaboration with UAB faculty, staff and students. Researches, plans and implements specific programs that support effective management of University resources and operations, planning and design, research activities, curricula, economic development and extra-curricular life. Supervises student interns and student projects and recruits students, faculty and staff for special projects. Works with the student Energy Efficiency and Sustainability Club to collaborate with federal and local agencies. Works directly with students on individual academic projects, including supervision of course credit projects focused on sustainability programs. Assists in the planning and execution of events and training programs related to sustainability at UAB to fulfill UAB's commitment to campus and community special event engagement. Maintains relationships with community organizations and area non-profits to support intersecting programs. Plans collaborative internal and external events and works with community representatives to expand communications, programming and outreach to a regional and statewide constituency. Supports regular interactions with Facilities Communications/Central Communications and UAB Digital media. Crafts Sustainability programming stories and reports for national audiences for communication through such organizations as AASHE, the Arbor Day Foundation, and the Department of Energy. Publicly presents Sustainability program initiatives and activities at local, regional and national meetings. Performs other duties as assigned. STARTING ANNUAL RATE OF PAY: $52,555.00 - $68.320.00 (Commensurate with experience & qualifications)
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts, English, Environmental Sciences, Nonprofit Management or a related
field and three (3) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for
education requirement. LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS/REGISTRATIONS: Must maintain a valid driver's license, issued in the United States. Motor Vehicle Record will be obtained and reviewed at least annually. Driving record should meet university underwriting standards to drive vehicle in performance of University business.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: Ability to multi-task Ability to problem solve Leadership skills Organizational skills Written and verbal communication skills PERSONAL: Must be able to possess the necessary physical requirements, with or without the aid of mechanical devices, to safely perform tasks requiring sitting and staring at a computer screen for extended periods of time, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, kneeling, and extensive walking significant distances between and within buildings on campus.
