The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) assists with the facilitation of an organized system of coordinated care by providing oversight to the physical, mental, emotional and social health for students as well as the school based community within designated Prince George's County Public Schools (PGCPS).
The LPN serves in a pivotal role that bridges health care and education. Grounded by standards of practice, services provided by the LPN include leadership, community/public health, care coordination, and quality improvement.? The goal of the LPN is to provide personalized and specialized nursing care
to students. The LPN will work closely with their assigned nursing supervisor to assess and implement appropriate nursing interventions to ensure the highest quality of care during the school day. Private duty nurses play a vital role in supporting educational access to students with complex medical needs
and helping them maintain their health and well-being while attending school.
Brief Description
This is a Temporary, On-Call, Hourly position and not a part of any bargaining unit.
Temporary employees are not eligible for leave, pay for holidays not worked, or other fringe benefits. The appointment also doesn't entitle the employee to any special considerations for employment in a permanent position and service credit isn't earned.
Hourly Rate: $31.62 (8 hours per day)

Detailed Description DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. OSH)
Incorporates the vision, mission and goals of the Office of School Health (OSH); Knowledgeable of nursing practice, skilled nursing procedures (ie catheterizations, g-tube feedings, trach care, suctioning etc), and be able to implement the students emergency care plan and update as needed; Accompany the student on the bus and remains with the student at all times including lunch and any other school-sponsored activities; Exclusively responsible for the? students daily medical care. Specific nursing functions will be determined by those individuals directly involved in the? students medical treatment, which include the student's providers, medical orders and care plans that comply with school policies,standards of practice and any other applicable rules, regulations or laws; Collaborate with the School-based RN and/or OSH leadership to appraise of any changes to the students medical condition and may attend multidisciplinary school based meetings; Maintains student confidentiality in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA); Attends PGCPS and OSH professional development and in-service workshops; Maintains effective written, verbal and non-verbal communication skills; Maintains appropriate level of professional competence; and Performs other assigned duties as required.
Job Requirements QUALIFICATIONS:
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Background/experience in pediatric nursing, community health nursing, critical care nursing, medical-surgical nursing and/or emergency room nursing preferred; Knowledge of the principles and practices of nursing, and child growth and development; Ability to use critical thinking skills and nursing judgment Ability to work with a population of students with a disability whether physical,mental, behavioral, emotional, and/or learning disabilities; Ability to use appropriate written, verbal, and electronic communication formats; Proficiency in basic computer skills and knowledge of productivity software including Google Suites and Microsoft Office; Ability to maintain highly sensitive and confidential information; Ability to work effectively with individuals and groups from various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds; Ability to work in a team relationship with a Registered Nurse. EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Graduation from an accredited school of? practical nursing with a Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN); and one year of prior healthcare setting. Pediatric nursing experience (preferred) CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Current Maryland Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) License, First Aid, Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certifications.? SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
None PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee responds in emergency situations as a first responder to students, staff, and visitors in the school building including running down a hallway, up and down stairs, performing CPR, using a defibrillator and/or pushing or lifting up to 25-50 Ibs. Must successfully pass fingerprinting and background check.?
Must have a current and valid state issued Driver?s License, and access to an insured motor vehicle.
