Stem Learning Coordinator

The STEM Learning Coordinator is a member of the STEM Learning Team, contributing their creativity to activate museum STEM spaces and helping to ensure coverage of those spaces over the 7-day schedule. While this person is not expected to be an expert in STEM areas, the ideal candidate will possess a hunger and a capacity for self-directed learning, particularly for tools and learning processes.

Duties & Responsibilities:
1.Facilitate guest engagement in the makerspace 3-4 days per week. This will be met with 1-2 days per week of administrative preparation, depending on seasonal needs. Guest-facing and prep days will equal 5 days per week.
2.Prepare makerspace activations, including ideating new activities, assembling bins, and maintaining an organizational system so that materials area always ready to go onto the museum floor.
3.Train other museum staff on new organization systems and STEM activations in the makerspace.
4.Facilitate STEM programming.
5.Present Science Demonstrations for school group tours on a designated day and serve as a backup on other days. Serve as backup for STEM Tour workshops.
6.Collaborate with STEM Fabrication Coordinator to create makerspace regular maintenance schedules and maintain procurement processes.
7.Other duties as assigned by STEM Learning Specialist.

Demonstrated ability to
•Originate ideas for STEM activations
•Present STEM content in an engaging way
•Create/maintain/revise organizational systems for a wide variety of materials
•Communicate effectively, even redirecting guests and peers if needed
Education/Experience
•High School diploma or equivalent
•Experience in a makerspace
•Experience working with children
•(preferred) Presentation and facilitation experience
Working Conditions
Museum floor/behind the scenes prep
Holiday, night, and weekend work
•Saturday and Sunday availability required. May work up to every weekend in a month, balanced with certain weekdays not working.
•Holidays worked per STEM team rotation.
Physical Demands
Standing and walking for extended periods on the Museum floor
Maintaining enthusiasm while engaging with guests for several hours at a time
Lifting supplies and maintaining equipment
Using tools, including technology-enabled tools
