Role Description

We are looking for a creative and diligent systems architect to play an integral role in the development of architectural requirements and specifications for our product, with a particular focus on control system architecture from system-to-cell level. You will work on a wide variety of technical evaluations, modeling, and analysis activities to define the controls architecture of Form's long duration storage battery. You will tie together product requirements, functional requirements, compliance, failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA), and validation testing using a thoughtful and collaborative process. This role requires a broad understanding of engineering disciplines, including controls, power electronics, and electrochemical energy storage; by bringing this skillset into the Product Architecture team, you will own the interface with the controls engineering teams.
What you'll do:

Define the controls architecture of Form's battery system, including system-to-cell state management, power flow, data management, and functional safety

Create a robust documentation structure for controls architecture

Define strategies for critical product functionalities including automatic emergency response, fault alerting, battery management system functional safety, and more

Convert the controls architecture into specific functional requirements to support product development

Ensure alignment between product requirements (PRD) and functional requirements (FRD); collaborate with Product Management to reconcile requirement gaps

Drive reconciliation of key functional requirements and specifications at controls subsystem interfaces among various stakeholders through thoughtful, data- and analysis-driven collaboration

Drive failure mode effects analysis (FMEA) processes with a specific focus on control systems

Contribute to failure analysis during prototyping to further refine functional requirements

Help define a verification and validation test plan for control systems, from system to cell level

What you'll bring:

7+ years direct experience, including battery systems, and controls development; broad familiarity of battery testing, power electronics, and battery support systems

Strong systems engineering background and proficiency in one or more requirements management tools (Jama, Polarion, or similar)

Ability to quickly gain a working knowledge of a wide range of technical details spanning multiple disciplines, from electrochemistry to mechanical engineering

Experience with architectural modeling software such as Simulink System Composer, Cameo, No Magic, or similar

Ability to communicate technical detail at multiple levels, for multiple audiences, across multiple disciplines

Highly organized and highly attentive to details
