Scheduled Hours 40 Position Summary The Schwarz Laboratory within the Cancer Biology Division and Department of Radiation Oncology at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, USA, is seeking a highly motivated, creative, independent, and enthusiastic individual to fill the position of Staff Scientist. The ideal candidate will have experience in mouse and or human tumor immunology to assist us in new focused studies of immunometabolism supported by a newly funded team science U54 grant.
Specifically, we will be using single cell and spatially resolved approaches to analyze human tumor specimens collected before and during chemotherapy and radiation treatment. Platforms employed include WES, WGS, bulk RNASeq, snRNASeq, snATACSeq, proteomics (Surequant and CODEX) and metabolite imaging using NIMS. We will then prioritize newly identified targets from the human translational data and perform functional studies of the relevant cell types (beginning with macrophages and T cells) using mouse tumor models in vitro and in vivo. Key competencies for success in this position include thorough knowledge of human and mouse immunology, bioinformatics pipelines, including single cell and CYTOF, mouse genetics, flow cytometry and in vitro immunological assays and co-culture techniques. Additional knowledge specifically of immunometabolism of a particular immunological cell type is encouraged. Opportunity exists to grow this project beyond macrophages and T cells into other cell types and tumor model systems.
Our research program provides a highly collaborative and supportive environment to develop and foster careers. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to use novel multi-omics approaches to fully characterize molecular mechanisms with direct relevance to human disease. Primary Duties & Responsibilities Following instructions and discussions with the principal investigator, designs research protocols, including developing procedures for the collection, verification and management of data. Assists with grant preparation and reporting. Performs complex statistical analysis of data collected and writes interpretative reports. Verifies the correctness of the data submitted and makes recommendations based on these analyses. Documents research topics and prepares and submits papers based on research work to publications and committees for publication or presentation to peers. Solves practical problems relating to difficulties with equipment or test subjects. Suggests technical or procedural improvements in testing methods. Conducts literature searches related to research project. Performs other duties as assigned. Working Conditions Works in laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological, chemical and radioactive hazards. Must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.
Preferred Qualifications Analytical, reasoning and problem-solving skills. Ability to analyze and interpret statistical data and to communicate data in a clear, concise manner. Computer literacy, including the ability to use a variety of software packages to analyze data. Experience in human tumor immunology. Experience in mouse tumor immunology using genetically engineered mouse models. Required Qualifications PhD or masterâ™s degree with 4 years of experience in research lab operations ; or equivalent combination of education and experience equaling 9 years.
Grade R10 Salary Range $47,000.00 - $85,200.00 / Annually
The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University.
