The Department of Special Education and Rehabilitation seeks to hire a staff assistant who will assist the Department Head and undergraduate faculty in general departmental operations. The position will include a variety of administrative support and secretarial responsibilities including extensive interaction with faculty and students. This position will be 50% time (20 hours per week).
Undergraduate Support – 70% Manage systems for tracking student inquiries, applications, assessments and communications. Collaborate with the SPED undergraduate Student Teaching Coordinator to organize student teaching (ST) applications, placements, workshops, trainings, assignment and filing. Collaborate with the SPED practicum coordinators to download and file practicum observations each semester. Collaborate with SPED advisor to monitor student tracking systems, maintain record and documentation of advising interactions, triage student inquiries Other general coordination support with undergraduate student teaching coordinator,undergraduate advisor and undergraduate program coordinator. Assist undergraduate faculty in various office tasks and class support as requested. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. General Department Support – 30% Perform office duties, including answering phones, directing calls to appropriate parties, data entry, filing, appointment scheduling, maintaining email lists, sending group emails, sorting and distributing mail, and other general duties as assigned. Schedule meetings as requested (in-person, tele-conference, video-conference). Coordinate scheduling and details for some department events (e.g., retreats, Honors program, Holiday party, undergraduate/faculty meetings) Take minutes at various departmental meetings Minimum Qualifications High school diploma/GED or aptitude is required.
Preferred Qualifications Previous experience with tasks described in the responsibilities section of the job announcement.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Skilled with computers and related software. Skilled with basic office equipment, including printers, copiers, and telephone systems. Good organizational skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to handle sensitive and confidential business data and personal information. Excellent customer service skills. $13.00 - $14.92 per hour; commensurate with experience, plus excellent benefits.
Employees work indoors and are protected from weather and/or contaminants, but not, necessarily, occasional temperature changes. T he employee is regularly required to sit and often uses repetitive hand motions.
