Animal Humane Society is looking for a Staff Accountant to support our Finance team! At AHS, caring for animals isn't just a job – it's our passion. Benefits: Health, dental, vision insurance and more!  15+ days of paid time off for a full year  9 paid holidays + 4 floating holidays per full calendar year 401k plan Job Purpose:  The Staff Accountant plays a pivotal role on AHS's Accounting team and is responsible for all aspects of accounting functions. Responsibilities include reconciliations, monthly reporting and analysis, financial system data entry, and bookkeeping duties following established procedures and timelines in support of the goals of the Animal Humane Society and its subsidiaries.
Schedule: Full-time; 40 hour/week role
Location/Remote Capabilities:  This position is a hybrid position. Must be able to regularly travel to our Woodbury location and surrounding area. Must be able to successfully work remotely.

Interview process includes a phone interview, followed by 2 department interviews (one in-person, 1 virtual) What you will be doing: Reporting — Complete AHS and subsidiary financial statements through preliminary results ensuring accuracy and completeness. Prepare balance sheet reconciliations, understand and interpret results, and recommend adjusting entries where needed.
Process — Compile and analyze financial information to prepare journal entries. Ad hoc and clerical tasks as needed.
Communication — Listen, pay attention and be a responsible steward of information. Communicate information in a clear, complete and timely manner.
Support — Assist with monthly sales tax return compliance. Act as the backup contact for all accounts payable inquires, including entering invoices and ensuring correct coding into AHS's ERP system for payment processing. Research and assist in reconciling vendor statements. Act as the backup contact for payroll. Support external audits and preparation of work papers.

Other duties as assigned. Requirements What we are looking for: Experience — 1-3 years of experience in Accounting or a related field required. Understanding of fundamental accounting principles strongly preferred.
Adaptability — Ability to think analytically, problem solve, and complete work that is subject to strict deadlines while balancing shifting priorities in a variety of situations.
Communication — Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must have the ability to partner collaboratively with external and internal contacts and department.
Computer Skills — Proficiency in financial management software and Microsoft Excel.
Schedule — Availability to work during operational hours as defined by leadership with the expectation to work varied hours including evening and weekend shifts.
Physical & Emotional Capabilities — Must be able to handle the physical and emotional aspect of work in an animal shelter environment, including the use of euthanasia. Must have a high level of resiliency.
